If you found the person who dumped it there and gave him(or her) a hearty smack on the chin ,I'll bet the Police would be there in seconds.

[QUOTE=Hazel at the Hill;123171]I don't see how you can sell it without the log book - or the keys!
      QUOTE]

I know what you're saying Hazel, but somebody took the motorbike from me without any paperwork or keys and gave me a tenner for their trouble, and with the blessing of the local police!

If you found the person who dumped it there and gave him(or her) a hearty smack on the chin ,I'll bet the Police would be there in seconds.

I agree Polly - how perverse is our law that this is sadly true.

Can dvla help in finding the registered owner?

Thanks for your support everybody. The good news is I discovered today the car has been moved out onto the public road. I'm assuming the police did this but nobody has been in contact with me to tell me anything.
When you call the police now you get through to a call certain where the people are very unhelpful. I'm glad it's resolved as if it was still there tomorrow I was going to get the local garage to tow it out onto the street. I don't know what my legal position would have been there but I wasn't having the nuisance of it any longer.
Thanks again for your support folks.

As I understand it, it is illegal to prevent someone gaining access to the Queens Highway. If your car is on the road, and you cannot get into your property then tough, but the other way round it is a crime.

Personally I would have a disabled relative or friend about to visit from the other end of the country and be prepared to contact the local paper about police inaction.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

            That is great.
I wander if the owner moved it? If it comes back onto your property it may be worth looking at one of those wheel clamping companies. They don't charge you, as they charge the car owner, but you do need to have a sign up.
Or you could get one of those sticky up posts to stop people getting cars onto your property in the first place.

Just let the tyres down next time, replacing the valve covers.

Work of minutes, no actual damage caused, just lots of bother to the idiot.

We had an old Mini blocking our access at the rear of our property for ages--We contacted the Police--"not their problem!" Contacted the council "Not their problem"--Then after a few weeks someone (not us) set fire to it. Then and only then after the Fire Service extinquished the fire did the Police/Council arrange to have it towed away!!!!
The law is an ass I agree!

Is it on the public highway? Is the first question

If it is, it is down to the Local Authority to remove it.

If it is on your property it is down to you to move it.

Now I know Sweaty land is different kettle of haggis from England but down south of the boarder you can do a search on the registered owner of a motor vehicle from the DVAL via a form at the post office the for used to be a V4 and cost £2.50. It will give the name and address of the registered keeper. The last known keeper may not be the owner though.

I would be tempted to make sure it is on the road….

I hope it's finally sorted and disappeared now, Alice. If not then post again and we'll come up with more suggestions. I suspect it was either stolen or had broken down, but the owners or police or local council should be responsible for moving it, and the police should certainly make investigations. They all have access to a computer system which instantly shows the registered owner of any vehicle when they key in the number plate.

We had a similar situation to this a few years ago at our old house. Someone dumped a blue Astra (see a pattern?), on one of our allocated parking bays. I, like you thought that either the council or police would move it. Alas no, it was on "private" property.

After 2 days of inactivity it misteriously ended up strewn accross the public highway - no idea who would of done such a thing, but you'll be surprised how handy a pair of pliers and a screwdriver can be!

Thanks again everybody. The pesky car wasn't completely bocking my access - just half of it so that we had to drive out on the wrong side of the road. And the annoyance of some car dumped on my property. I suspect the car had been stolen and abandoned there. It was annoying to get no help or support from the police. BOO !!!!
Just glad to have the matter resolved but disappointed at the lack of help given to law abiding citizens. Quite frightening really.

Alice glad it's sorted. I think if you had moved it onto the street yourself you could have actually got done for dumping and charged for it's removal.

You're correct, the law can be an ass.

And sadly becoming the norm, lately, too.

Next week you'll be hearing the police complain that they get no assistance from the public these days. You couldn't make it up!

Just thinking on, we had the police come and tell one of our neighbours to remove a swimming pool (don't ask) from our private property. It was blocking the only emergency access to our property though, so that might have been why?? They were only interested when I mentioned the emergency access.
