  • Patience Lumpy, I nearly flippin blew my top at work.
Long story short, one boss asked me to help her BH Monday, no probs, the other has found out and got the hump - with me!
Upshot is, she doesn't want me to work for her any more.
    Some women - arghh!

          • Today started so well. I was waiting for a text from my friend who runs the local diy shop for another friend. I had a particular colour mix on order. I was bored so decided to go to Hobbycraft for some bits and pieces for a charity "elf" door I'm making. I went to see if the paint was in on my way home. It was being delivered as I arrived.

I knew I needed to burn some more garden stuff but had seen from my bedroom window that 3 of my closest neighbour's had their washing out.

My daughter turned up as I got home. Why haven't you lit the bonfire? Because my neighbour's had their washing out. Well it's not out now. And she sets to work starting the fire. It's actually in one of those barrel things with holes in the bottom and a lid with a chimney. I did suggest it wasn't a good idea but she's very gung-ho about getting my house and garden sorted pronto.

Unfortunately my nasty neighbour 2 doors away has his house for sale and he had people looking at it. I'm outside planting hanging baskets and my daughter's inside painting when NN decides to come over and rant at me about the fire. According to him it's illegal to have a bonfire in the garden; it's not and if it is why does he have several over Halloween and bonfire night including fireworks every time. There was very little breeze today so the smoke was going straight up but according to him it was unbreathable etc. My daughter stuck her head out of the door and said quietly "Don't talk to my mother like that". After a small pause he continued to rant at me. My daughter in a reasonable tone said "Mum didn't light it, I did". He continues to blame me and eventually goes away. He said a lot of untrue stuff that was extremely upsetting.

I said nothing because whatever I said would 1) inflame the situation and 2) sound like excuses however true.

My daughter put the fire out. She said after that she felt like ripping his head off so I don't know how either of us stayed so calm. He's put me through hell over the last 11/12 years since Brian died. At last another of my children has seen it for themselves.

                • And AGAIN.

Phone going barmy at dead on 9am always a sign of a problem that is when the letting agents open. Tenant with a bad smell of gas we are needed urgently but are 25 miles away, the other side of the city.

Ring tenant and go through the usual about turning the main supply off, opening windows, ringing the gas emergency service etc. Ring son and divert him from his programmed work to the emergency.

Son arrives and nearly falls out of his van, gas utility services, police and a fire engine on standby.

Some complete idiot had ripped out some external gas pipework in the night and run off with the copper tube. Damn good job it was a detached house otherwise who knows what the result could have been.

Another perishing cold night and a very hard frost this morning. Covered up the Dunluces last night, but might as well not have bothered. All a black slimy mess from the frost the night before. And it was even colder last night. So that might be that for them. The cold nights are due to continue till Thursday next week.

Feeling proper glum. They're only potatoes, but they seem indicative of all the other proverbial that's going on.

Might as well join in and get it of me chest. Finally seeing the true damage from the hard frost a few days ago. My potential crop of 40 apricots, a fair few figlets, odd cherry plums now all gone. Kiwi plant a soggy black thing (so hope it is only the shoots), 2 lemon balms gone and a fair few tips nipped out on shrubs. I knew there would be a price to pay for all the lovely days we've had

There is a silver lining.....my seedlings are all fine (fingers crossed, touch wood and all that)

                        • Going to the banana counter in the supermarket, woman already choosing hers sneezes all over them, looks at me and walks on...bananas bought in bags. Why could you not turn or over your mouth? (Of course who knows what happened before they were put in the bag but I knew exactly what happened to the unbagged ones!)
