I reckon it will be six months before you will feel the benefits Jay

No, as Bren has said you will feel the benefits right away, getting out and exercising, one benefit she did miss out was out walking you dont need your purse with you
I wish my wife would try walking she has COPD and I think doing some walking would help her but I think she is afraid to do to much incase she cant get her breath back,
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

When someone has COPD it can be really frightening for them to undertake exercise, even gentle walking. It can be really beneficial but it has to be managed safely, ideally with support from your G.P. or practice nurse. Breathing exercises are also helpful as well as important, these can be accessed through Respiratory Physiotherapy which many people are unaware off but again are available through the G.P. I have had respiratory physio over the last couple of years and it's been fantastic. As a health care professional myself I was completely unaware of it until I needed it.

      • My uncle suffers from COPD too, has ended up in hospital a couple of times lately after ignoring warning signs!

Haven't heard of the physio thing JJ, worth him investigating this, thanks!

          • What a lovely weekend. My daughter and I took our dogs for a walk on the Ridgeway yesterday. There was a hailstorm and Hollie doesn't like cold and wet. We had to carry her most of the way in our coats as she was so miserable and shivering despite her coat. Prince and Wills were happy as Larry. Today daughter took Prince and Wills and they loved it. Hollie stayed with me. The reason for the weekend was to make curtains for my great grandson's nursery. Well we cut the material and pinned some together. I think we sewed 2 seams and gave up. Probably 3 gins each and 2 bottles of wine between us had something to do with it.

There is more to this. My daughter has (now had) 2 cars. One specifically for mud related walkies. She decided to drive it on a very muddy, untarmacced lane. It was full of potholes several of which she didn't avoid. We ended up with a wheel arch detached and banging on the side of the car. She then lost the ball thrower. We searched the car and gave up. When we got back to the car it had a flat tyre. Whilst she was pumping it back up I was sorting the dogs out and found the missing ball thrower on the windscreen. The car is now probably a write off. A light came on today and she was afraid to turn the engine off. She was right. The light indicated that when she turned it off the car would be disabled.

I'm now home with one exhausted but very happy and muddy Prince and a cuddly and happy Hollie.

JohnJohn thanks for the posting, Mrs C has Inflammatory myopathy & Autoimmune disorder and a selection of other aliments and is on a Nippy ST+ Positive Pressure Ventilator at night as the muscles in her lungs do not expel the CO2. This could be quite useful for her, getting her to do anything about it is another matter, but at least now I know about it.

Went over to see our Daughter yesterday, alls well there. Her partners little boys were there and the GG was a tad put out with them getting attention. Had a little chat to sort that out and hope her hormones don't trouble her too much lol

                    • Good morning all . Very dull and grey this morning and it looks like rain. Nothing planned for today except housework. How boring is that.

                            • Afternoon all. Rain and grey skies. Didnt get a chance to go for a walk so plugged in the threadmill and dug out the weights and spent the last hour burning off a bit of energy.
                              Hate being stuck indoors.
