  • Great morning so far. Have moved half a smallish dumper load of muck and have ordered a load more. Stood around and soaked up the sun while watching Mr Snoop rotavate the rest of my winter veg patch.

Better set about paid work now. But looking forward to a weekend of digging, rotavating and seed sowing.

Feeling very jolly. Hope you all are too.

Edited to add: no frost this morning. One no-frost morning does not a spring make, but it's promising!

    • Good evening Folks, just a quick visit to see what's been happening today, didn't come on last night as I went to bed early, sadly for no other reason than I was bone weary, my wife was going out so I decided I would put down the flooring rather than wait for my son to come and do it, so I moved the washing machines to put some laminate under them, and I heard a hissing sound so I turned off the water to find the noise stopped, so water leak, I then phoned for a plumber, this was just before mid day, he couldn't come till about six, so tried an other his time was four o clock, so accepted him had to give over bank details as it was minimum charge of half an hour which was£60. he had to have access to the pipe work,, which was under the floor, access hatch in living room and belly crawl 20ft. in water so reckoned he wouldn't that, so decided to lift some tiles and as I can't kneel had to cut them out lying on the floor and it was like cutting through concrete, got the tiles out so cut through the wooden floor, which was soaking, got a space opened up when I got a phone call that it would be five before the plumber would arrive, as I could see where the leak was I told them to cancel the request, spent an hour looking for a pipe cutter, when the plumber I had contacted first turned up 3.45 showed him the problem and asked how much it would cost £80. so told him no thanks, went to B&Q to buy a pipe cutter cost £4.50 and some wood to repair the floor, back home and cut and repaired the pipe in ten minutes, I think I should have went for a trade when I was younger, charging those prices I could have retired at forty, spent more time repairing the floor as I had to get it to the same level as the tiles, and all the work I was doing was carried out lying on the floor it was quite exhausting, even asked OH to come down and give a hand but she declined for some reason she must know me better than I thought, after a night's sleep I thought I had better get the floor and joists checked out as they are pretty wet, contacted my insurance company, and discovered that I am insured for emergency repairs, as I have never claimed anything in the past I had not given that a thought, so you are never too old to learn, (that must cheer some of you Vine members up) now waiting on someone to come and check the flooring. Had a lazy day today as I feel very sore using muscles that I have not used for some time, and shoulders feeling as if they were on fire, due to arthritis, I let my wife pay for our lunch as I was too sore to get into my pockets, while waiting for lunch I was reading the paper and noted that they have discovered footprints dating back 7,000 years in a coastal area in Wales, and it made me wonder if VC or HH have been in that area. Well it's time for bed, I did see a post from BM where he was connecting some gadget to the tv, in future if he is having problems getting things to work he should try calling his gadgets titanic and he will get them to sync no bother. Goodnight

            • Mornin n'alln'all !
Deffo lighter here too!...probably cos it's stopped peeing down
Looks nice out there for a change!
Might even get on with the weeding later...

Talking of getting lighter...my diet is going well...12lbs gone so far

Cor rary...never a dull moment in your household !
I heard yesterday that a gardening friend got a phone call from the neighbours of one of her clients...
Can you come over, do you have a key?..there is water pouring down the road from you client's house!
4ft of water in their cellar, overspilling the threshold and flowing down the hill!
Daft people hadn't turned off their water when they'd gone away for a few weeks.....burst pipe in their attic bathroom and their bedroom and lounge below absolutely saturated.
We had several nights of -10C a few weeks ago so the burst must have happened then?
Cor...I'd love to see their water bill
Won't help you rary...but it might help you realise you're not the only one

And so, on that cheery note... have a great day peeps!

              • Morning everyone, well done you losing 12 lbs. Rary will no doubt be along with a joke about that later
I stayed at our daughters last night. Got our GG dressed up as Hermoine Grainger from Harry Potter books, I haven't tied a tie since I was at school, took many attempts I can tell you.
Was lovely seeing all the costumes when we were walking to school, lovely atmosphere.
Hoping our furniture arrives early today, then hubby can come and take me home
                Have a great day

                • Thanks Nicos, and sadly I know things like this happen my sympathies to you neighbour, and any time I mention anything connected with the burst pipe, its like "light blue touch paper stand well back" I think I am getting blamed for it, simply because I found it but must admit I have serious concerns about the state of the joists, can only pray that they are not too bad. Well Folks, remember other folks problems are more serious to them than yours, so pass on a smile, to help cheer them up. Have a good day

                  • Morning all, sorry to hear about your eventful day rary!

Lovely sunny morning but boy was it cold last night. Beautiful clear sky so got a great view of Venus and Jupiter it was also very frosty. Domestics today and packing my bag as I'm off to Cheltenham to visit our daughter and son in law...OH is staying home to look after Harry dog. Bit concerned as I'm flying with the airline that's been in the news several times over the past few weeks. Last time we flew down the same company had an incident in Belfast where during landing the pilot's prosthetic arm fell off!!

Hope you all have a great day.

                      • NS if I had lost 12 pounds there would have been a search party out to find it, and yes Jay it was a clear sky last night but didn't think it was clear enough to see if Jupiter was frosty or not but I won't argue with you about it, I never win an argument with a wuman

                        • Afternoon all

Wow, well done on your weight loss Nicos. That is fantastic I hope you feel a lot better for it as well.

Our school didn't do dressing up for World Book Day I was so disappointed because I love costumes and dressing up. My daughter is reading Harry Potter 2 so she would have loved to dress as one of the characters. I bet your GG looked great as Hermione, NannySally.

Bought some house plants today. Got fed up with how the weather has been (cold, wet and windy) and not feeling like gardening in the cold so brought a bit of the outside in instead. Not really done houseplants before so hope I don't kill them all!

                          Have a good evening
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

                            • Good evening, things are very quiet on here just now, perhaps it's a pre sowing lull. It's been quite a cold day today, yet the greenhouse temp. reached 24c been messing about trying to dry of the floor joists with a couple of dehumidifier going, and hoping that this will work, OH is not very happy with it all and its like walking on egg shells at the moment, fortunately being experienced with the nature and moods of the female sex, I can handle this with a bit of finesse, I have found that if you walk over the egg shells and break them, then remove the hearing aid you can take all the flack that's thrown at you . Well I wish you all a good night Friday tomorrow and for those who are working, I hope the day goes quickly, for those older Grapes I hope it doesn't go too quickly, and remember don't let old age get you down,...... its too much of a struggle tot get back up. Goodnight
