How old is/was this artical?
Just so much is either old or odd.

It says this phishing technique has been gaining popularity over the last year, this has gone on for a lot more then a year. My Yahoo account gets a few of these every year, so it is not Gmail dependant.

Additionally to read the phishing email you will have had to log in to Gmail, so having logged in to read the email you are asked to log in again?

Why would a friend or collegue I know, as that is where it states the email as coming from, send me an email with a link for me to log in to my email account, especially as to read the email I have had to log in to it. Not even sure google might but not someone I know.

The artical seems as if written by an office junior. It keeps repeating that "tech savvy" people are getting caught out, sorry but close to not a chance in hell of that.

As to clicking on the bit at the bottom and "doing what they say" someone must have lost their marbles.

Is that "Yorkshire Evening Post" page the actual scam? Follow the link at the bottom and get phished?

The artical is just "wrong" in more then one way.

Why are you even reading this thread Kirk, you are obviously clued up on these things. It is always good to be made aware of any potential threat to your personal accounts whether you are tech savvy or not. For the record, I can access my Gmail account on my phone without signing in as it is synced to my Yahoo account, which I can also access without signing in.
