Just go for it.
We did, and hadn't even prepared for it!
If you are thinking about it, you are clearly not happy with what you are doing.
If you are prepared to do any job, then try and choose a location and see what jobs are available...and house prices.
No point in 'doing a life' you're not happy with..you don't want to be regretting things later in life

To go back to the original subject. I've always lived out in the "sticks" until 22 years ago. I now live in a small rural town. There are villages bigger than this. My heart says I want to go back to my lovely impractical cottage that my husband and I moved into when we got married. I think I have the best of both worlds now. I have a beautiful view across the Thames Valley, it takes about 5 mins to walk into fields. I love my house. For the first time in 22 years I will have a garden.
For practical reasons I wouldn't move back into the rural idyll. I could live it at the moment but at knocking 70, it will get to the stage that I would be isolated. Not able to get to the shops, friends and the pub."I prefer rogues to imbeciles as they sometimes take a rest" (Alexander Dumas)
