  • Can't do without it!?

I love having a south/south-west facing garden and being able to watch the sun set behind the stand of beech trees in the field at the end of our garden.

Can't do without it.....hate not being able to sit in the garden and watch the sun go down.

    What about you guys?

    Hi SBP

My old house had a south facing garden and you do get spoilt by it that for sure, I loved it, had sun almost all day. My new garden is a north-something facing garden and is more of a challenge for the light and where I get it etc, but then I'm starting now to see the fun of it!

I do envy you though (I a nice way of course)

Our front garden is south facing and comes into flower a good fortnight before the north facing back one. The end of the back garden is a real sun trap and houses our figs and apricots.

Our favourite treat is to sit by the pond with the sun in our face in the evening with a bombay saphire and lemon, or a good Rioja.

Thanks Shortie, you've got to have somewhere to sit with a glass of wine of an evening!

But what couldn't you do without?

Posh, moi, you must be joking. If you have a tipple you might as well make it a good tipple.

I would miss both the gin and the sun on my face. Or is it the sun and the Rioja, definitley the sun, it brings joy to my soul and peace to my heart.

Being open on all four sides (no immediate neighbours - nearest 1/4 mile away) we can sit any side. However.............. the downside is we have very little shelter, so the direction of the wind dictates where we sit. We have a selection of seats, but they never seem to be in quite the right place!

I'm with you SBP. Can't do without a garden. Have lovely south and west facing areas so can get the sun any time of day. We went to Brittany last spring (March, April, May) for 3 months - rented a house. Now there's a place to garden in climatic terms. The house had a big garden but practically nothing growing in it. Found that depressing so I was growing stuff in pots all round the house. Pelargoniums were outside in March. Think the owners thought I was a bit potty - probably right. We enjoyed our stay there but in the end I was desperate to get home to my garden. I think I missed it more than I missed the family!

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I have a south facing garden, lovely all the day but when it's grey, it's grey.

                    SBP

There's nothing in my garden I couldn't do without yet as we've only been here a year and there's so much work to do still in it! I think I will find the decking and sitting area a god send when we finnaly get them done, so I suppose at the moment, although I am living without it, it's the thing I couldn't (or don't like) living without

Listening to the birds warbling away while you're working in the garden. It's like oxygen for the soul.

I love to watch the big bees that just waft along and the hoverflies. When fitting my water saver on the downspout found several ladybirds hiding there.

I'm hoping some of those big bumbling bees find their way to the nest box I've half-hidden at the bottom of the garden!

Blimey I didn't realise there were so many different bees about. That is really interesting.

                              Mundane items but...

I cannot do without my shed and the car port across our north facing back terrace.

The shed for all my gardening equipment.

The car port because there is no better way of enjoying rain than being out in it and yet still dry, my OH also likes it for the simple reason the washing line is doubled back & forth under it.
