  • I was asked to empty the cupboard under the stairs in the lounge 3 months ago in preparation for redoing the stairs and adding banisters. I did as requested and the stuff has stayed there in the corner (actually taking over about a third of the room and making it impossible to clean properly). I decided a few days ago to deal with it. Most of it needed to go down to the shed/summerhouse but that is full of stuff that belongs in the house. I have been going through each box as I don't want to lug heavy boxes of unwanted stuff around. I can't believe the amount of rubbish I've chucked. The rest is in a bedroom.

I now have room to put some decorations up, if I could find them. Both the light bulb in the bedroom they're in and the one in the cupboard have blown and I can't reach to replace them, so I have to do this in daylight. I might have them in the spring when I can see haha.

Oh. and the stairs still haven't got their banisters.

    • I've started with K is for keys - mainly because there was a bunch of them in the cupboard and I didn't have a clue what they were for - old door locks, I think! So I've been matching them up with other odd keys and tomorrow I'll see whether they fit any of the padlocks in the shed. If not, out they go.
Doesn't exactly Spark Joy but it made me smile.

        • I haven't stopped decluttering. 4 bin bags and 2 carrier bags of stuff went to the charity shop the other week, although it looks like a lot of peeps have a clear out in December. So I will definitely still be with you in 2018 haven't even touched the loft or garage and the box room still needs lots of attention

              • That's C for Cat or is it P for Pigeons?

Or a general turfing out to charity shops/bin/recycling

                        Or...a mixture of both?

Ooooo...Strangely enough I'm feeling excited by the very thought!....

                        • Not really sure yet, Nicos.
I like the Alphabet theme - chuck out 5/10 things beginning with A, or clear out something with an A - like Airing cupboard, because its ties to the date of the month.
Maybe a few little challenges thrown in - like clear a windowsill, empty a drawer, pick up everything on the floor.............sort of thing.
We could take it in turns to set a daily challenge - a 10 minute tidy thing?
All suggestions welcome - I know lots of you are a lot neater than me.
I'm going to have a charity bag handy, and take it to the shop every week, so I can't rethink the contents!!

                          • Great advice from VC, I enjoy emptying drawers and cupboards and having a good recycle.
I can think of a couple that are more than ready for it ......

                            • I'm going to aim to throw/give away 5 things a day. That's 150 items a month and 1800 in a year
Starts Monday, 1st Jan. Until then I'm going to wander around the house looking for disposable Junk.

                              • I don't have clutter. I have memories and a big pile of "it might come in handy"
This is fine as long as ( this bit is very important ) it all has a home. If it doesn't have a home or is untidy or unnecessarily on show it's rubbish and must be sorted as soon as possible.

All incredibly useless information and of no help what so ever to all you clutter busters
