    • Me tidy? ...ha! *picks OH up off the floor ( not cos I'm being tidy I hasten to add!)

I have 2cellars and a whole barn full of things, some going rusty, maybe a bit chipped etc which really, really need sorting!
I will not chuck anything if there is a chance it can be used by us/someone else or upcycled....so this really is going to be quite a challenge for me.
I have a strange feeling that this is also going to involve some Spring cleaning as we go along isn't it? *faints....

      So....piles of things....
      Plan of action....

To the tip if all else fails
      Charity shops
      Offer to friends and family
Upcycle if poss ( sell on or keep or gift as a present)
Try and sell at Vide greniers (car boot sales)
Relocate to a more appropriate part of the house/garden
And if all that fails....hide it for another year or so

      • If I can help it, I'm not a very organised person anymore and prefer to work as and when the feeling takes me/urgency requires!
(All to do with learning to live a waaay less stressed life)
I'm either a procrastinator or hyperactive...so some days will be spent 'planning' and other days rolling up the sleeves and getting stuck in.
Sort of looking forward to doing this VC....either a few minutes each day or a huuuge blast once a week..
        Bring it on!

        • In the run up to Christmas I sorted out the stuff I’d taken out of the cupboard under the stairs 3 months before. The amount of junk, mostly recyclable, was amazing. The bin men only take a maximum of 3 sacks so that’s what I put out. They only collect every 2 weeks and I have a lot more sacks. It turns out that they were allowed to take all sacks/bins however full this week. It would have been nice if they’d told us as it’s going to take me months to get rid of the rest. Taking it to the tip means I have to resort everything into the different types of recycle.

                • Sounds like fun VC.....but I think my incentive would be the Vide Grenier money instead....might encourage OH to help out a bit as well.... and then pay for a weekend away

My problem is I rarely use cash - coins are usually chucked in charity tins. I may have to collect 100 days of coins and swap them on day 101 for a £1 coin and reuse the change each day until I reach 200, then swap it for another £1 and so on. Still with me????

First to find all the loose change in pockets and bags - that's decluttering too

Nicos, sounds like a great incentive - a holiday funded by clutter

                      • I may be changing the rules on my collection as well. I have two options
                        A. Save 1p - day 1, 2p - day 2, up to 100 days then start the cycle again ( because like you I don't always have the cash and quite frankly I don't think I could afford to save £3+ a day when we get to the think end of the year ). I've worked it out at a saving of £90 and a bit of change. This would still be very helpful.
                        B. Save a coin every day but not necessarily the correct amount just see what I end up with. Like day 3 put a 5p in, days 96,97,98,99, chuck a £1. Then when it gets to the bigger numbers if I've only go £1 on me on day 278 I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Now I've said it out loud I'm quite liking plan B

Does that make any sense to anyone else?

                        • Adding up in my head, January saves about £5 cumulatively. Starting again each month gives you about £60 by the end.
                          So many variations

                          • ClutterBusters - starts tomorrow Jan 1st

                            Get ready to declutter

My Plan for the week is
Jan 1st - at least 5 things starting with A (eg anorak, aerosol, atlas, antique) or found in an A (Airing cupboard/automobile/auntie's handbag etc)

Jan 2nd - same with B (Books balloon, brush) or found in Bookcase, Bureau, Bathroom

                            Jan 3rd - Ditto C

and so on through the month. Difficult letters like Q and X need a bit of imagination. Days 27 - 31 are Wildcard days. Anything goes as long as at least 5 things go.

As an Incentive I'm going to "Pay" myself - 50p a day as long as 5 things go. If I fail, I have to forfeit a day's Pay. At best, I can "earn" £3.50 a week. If I fail to throw anything away I have to pay back 50p to the Clutter GangMaster/Mistress). In other words, not only do I not "earn 50p" but I have to payback 50p from my kitty.

If I throw away 5 things a day for 365 days I'll have £182.50 to spend on Jan 1st 2019. That's my incentive + a tidier house, of course

I'll give myself a pay review in a few months time, in case I've run out of junk (haha) and may add in extra tasks to "earn" some bonuses.

I understand if this is a step too far but, if it keeps me decluttering, I'm going for it.

Feel free to think up your own way of decluttering - you may not have as much junk as I do

                              • 5 things a day? I'm having a panic attack already!

I am going to aim to clear my desk, print 2018 calendar off for my desk and then sort some books out!
