As the title says , I'm looking for someone with a bit of knowledge regarding wiring Cat5e.
Many thanks in advance.

Whilst waiting for some help, I'll try to explain my confusion:
I've ordered a RJ45 Face Plate to take Cat5e cable. Everything I have read agrees that connection 1 is orange/white............2 is orange............3 is green/white...........4 is blue............5 is blue/white.........6 is green........7 is brown/white.....&...........8 is brown.....No Problems there.
Ok, this is where it gets confusing, here is a photo from PC Advisor, note the order of the connections down both left & right columns (ignore the middle column):
Here is a photo of the plate I have ordered, he states that it is for UK T-568B which is what I need:
As you can see, the connection numbers match the colours in both photos but the order of the connection differ..............do I just wire it as it says on the plate? I was wondering if it was just a stock photo & what I receive will be what PC Advisor says. I've sent a question to the seller but whether I get a reply we'll see.
Thanks again.

Hi BM, I'm not familiar with the design of the kit you have got - when I did ours five years ago I could see the joins between the connections and the pins. But even then each connection was colour-coded.
Yours look easier, you don't need to separate the twisted pairs within the cable to move that green wire into place like I did.
I think you're worrying unnecessarily. Just put the coloured wires in the matching connections and trust that the internal wiring of the plates joins each wire to the correct pin, e.g. green wire to pin 6. The designers are clearly trying to make the things idiot-proof so that people can wire them up without worrying about the pin-outs. Disengage your brain and it will be fine.

Cheers Martin, my thoughts were to firstly wire it as the package suggests, if it dunt work try the PC Advisor suggestion...........why do they have to make things so complicated.

Depending on what you're putting down the cable (and cat5e is a very old standard) it isn't going to matter which you use.
Basically, all I want to do is run a cable from the router (in't kitchen) through to my device (in't living room). Rather than having a direct cable from the router to the device, I thought it more sensible to go through a faceplate.

Much nicer job... The layouts are just different on the back plates, it makes punching down the cables easier and you're supposed to un-twist less which is better for data loss/interference. The actual pin outs will be the same. So 2,1,6,3 on the left will be Orange, Orange and White , Green , Green and White. If the connectors ran 1,2,3,4 you'd end up with green un-twisted and dragged over the other side of the plate crossing other wires, which is not only confusing when you've done a couple of hundred but could introduce cross talk.
Thanks for your reply, so basically it sounds like different manufactures make the plates with connections in a different order although the colour to pin remains the same.

That's about the long and short of it. Just because a connector is the first in line or top left it doesn't follow it will be pin 1 on the face plate, if you see what I mean.
It would take all the fun out of things if there was a standard
The one I just picked up was an Excel module, they look like this...
Now that bears out my confusion as your keystone is different to both PC Advisors pic & mine..........I think I should just ignore the research & just put the wires as per the plate that I receive.

I'd just like to say a big thank you to those who contributed to this thread. The hardwire is now installed............it runs 5x faster than the wi-fi...........3x faster than the Powerline Adapters all for a princely sum of £7 so happy days.............thanks again.
