  • Dangerous computer scam

Just had a call from a female with an Indian accent alleging to be from my ISP saying that there was a problem with my router and others were using my connection. I rang off and blocked the number.

Got a call from "unavailable". Answered it and same person started to give me instructions relating to Windows. When I told her I was on a Mac she directed me to a site for TeamViewer. I rang off.

This is a legitimate site for software, which enables remote control but I assume once installed they would have talked me into giving them control of my computer.

Didn't answer the next five "unavailable" calls and hopefully they've given up.

If you are having internet problems and coincidently get one of these calls, ignore them. Contact your ISP directly.

I have call guardian on my home phone which prevents unknown numbers being connected but it does keep a record of them. On checking them over the months there are dozens and dozens of people online complaining about the very same scam! I wouldn't my let anyone take remote control of my computer unless it was my own security company and only if I had contacted them. Personally I don't entertain ANY cold callers!

Neither do I! Why waste time listening to someone prattle on very quickly in an Eastern accent (sorry I'm not at all racist) unless you're willing to have a joke with them, nor would I even entertain anyone to access my PC.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

I was going to block "unavailable" calls but Talktalk advise against this as some NHS and GPs use these numbers. Further googling seems to confirm this. What surprised me was that they won't leave messages as this could breach privacy rules.
