There's nowt wrong with window-shopping as long as you don't go in and buy! Now back to topic! I get talking to strangers in shops because sometimes things just happen, such as:
Two ladies in a small aisle trying to choose a book for a child - suddenly look at me - I said I love Winnie the Pooh and other stuff. They agree and we then have a long talk about other books we remembered from the past.
Someone at the till was struggling with several wine bottles in his basket - left the queue to get him a wine carrier box - Cheers mate! It made our day.
Can I stroke your guide dog? Will he mind? No he won't because it's a she! A good laugh had by all.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

Being shy by nature I've pushed myself over the years to speak to strangers. I was elected president of our church youth group 2 or 3 years and had to speak every Sunday evening in front of them. I graduated from the university with a degree in education and had to spend 8 weeks teaching full time at a high school to get my teaching certificate. Those 2 things prepared me to make presentations at work without too much stage fright.

I go out of my way to speak to strangers. At the grocery store on a very busy Saturday I mentioned to the couple in the checkout line ahead of me that we should have brought lawn chairs. In line at the coffee shop I said something to a young lady ahead of me about her dog that was in the car she got out of and she ended up being a real chatterbox. We had a pleasant conversation. You never know how people will react but that's the beauty of it.

I'm still shy of course but I push myself and I've gotten better. I'll talk to strangers about almost anything that isn't going to be instantly controversial.

Weirdly I am more chatty with strangers than I am with people I know - I often have random conversations with random people

When I'm in London I love smiling at people on the underground - sometimes I throw in a wave too just to see what happens - they run a mile!

So do you think I will gain confidence when I get older NS

But you say you both are annoying people for greeting people with a smile and hello, its a putty their are not more like the two of you, and I am sure you will be quite willing to have a conversation with strangers, just be careful it could be ........

On the underground people can see you wave at them from a mile away??? (After you smile and wave I assume they run towards you.)

When I smile at strangers they look for a mirror or a pane of glass to see their reflection so they can check their teeth and nose.
