Mum was bitten by a Blandford Fly one year or so the docs told her - it did create the elephant leg thing, we're not particularly close to a river or anything but they do travel apparently.
Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!

Yes we in North Oxon have most certainly heard of the 'Blanford Fly' we are close to the canal and most of the peps in my village are aware of this horrible little fly!!!!!

I have had to resort to insect repellent when I go to the lottie - fed up with bites from all kinds of beasties and they (the bites that is) always get infected and they're usually on my face! Argument in favour of the burqa .... the only one I think.

I think some people just attract biting insects and I'm definitely one of them!! I was attacked by gnats the year before and had (very embarrassingly) about 25 bites on my backside and tops of my legs (despite wearing trousers) - taught me the lesson to kneel down when I'm weeding rather than bending over and advertising my backside as dinner for the local blood sucking population!!! What colour is meant to repel them most, dark or light??

Strangely enough I've just seen an article on this horrid insect in today's Mail - it would appear its field of operations are spreading....

Superfly with a taste for humans: Summer surge of insect bites that send victims to hospital in agony | Mail Online

I think this must be the culprit which got a friend of mine last year.

Think I found the culprit - was watching local news this morning and there was a piece about a woman ending up in hospital because of a fly bite, some call it the dorset / black fly, but normally known as

You've beat me to it! I've been bitten and it's very painful, infected and have cellulitis.
Am on antibiotics and Googled this pm and read abot the Blandford Fly which is spreading but origonally from Dorset and lives near water but apparently not too fussy at the moment as it's been sighted many other places.
It leaves a weal and very often becomes infected. These things can turn nasty if not treated. So, any swelling, redness and heat from the site of the bite and straight to Docs.

DD seems to have developed a bit of an intolerance to whatever nasty keeps biting her.
A couple of weeks ago I had to take her to the out of hours Docs as a two week old bite suddenly got hives around it...they prescribed antibiotics.
Then a couple of days later we had to go again as she was bitten on the nose and woke up with half her face swollen and could hardly open her eye.
She also got a bite on her back the same day which didn't seem to react badly...today it's been really bugging her and when I looked has a big red ring around it.
Seems strange that two bites have taken two weeks to go wierd but the one on her nose was overnight?
If it's still irritating her in the morning then I'll take her to our Doc.
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.
