  • The growing mojo has returned!

For one reason or another the end of last season was not good for us and we neglected our little home plot.
Last weekend, with much trepidation, we set to sorting it out and in the process harvested about 20kgs of perfect maincrop spuds and some more than acceptable carrots and parsnips. Result! Plus a little harvest of PSB that was lovely.
We also prepped all the beds for this year. When we started it was a chore, when we finished it was a triumph, the mojo was coming back!
Today we were back at it, it took me until mid morning to force myself outside to start seed sowing but come later this afternoon we had done loads and we both feel great.
The mojo is now most definitely back and this evening has been spent with Joy Larkham lol reminding myself of what I should be doing.

It took a bit of an effort to get outside but once there it was fab, isn't the outdoors great for mental health. It's the perfect therapy. I miss being outside, once you tend to stay inside it gets difficult to get out there again. Garden centre tomorrow, just for a mooch, before more seed sowing in the afternoon.

Apologies for the rambling post but if I write down how I'm feeling I can look back at it and reflect.

Hoping that you are all enjoying being outside at this exciting time of year for the growers amongst us.

          Thanks everyone.
Today I started sieving the compost for this years carrots, I'd sieved about 50 litres when I realised that the stuff I was sifting had a generous dose of chicken manure pellets last week and so would be high in nitrogen which carrots hate!
So, tomorrow will be all about sieving some left over mpc from last year and then working out what to feed the carrots with as they grow. They were okay last year but if I can improve this year that would be satisfying.

Didn't actually sow any more seeds today but two days left of the long weekend to do that.

I just wish it would warm up a bit, I was cold outside today but was outside for a good few hours which is great!

          Happy growing to all

Know exactly how you feel SarahJH. Thank goodness I have my niece who is taking over a little plot in my veg garden which is motivating me not only to help her and her little daughter as a first-time gardener, but also to get out there in the fresh air. She will help me to tidy the greenhouse so we can sow sweetcorn and dwarf French beans and I will show her how to sow leeks and sugar snap peas. When you see a job to do that over-faces you, it looks worse than it actually is. When it's done you wonder why you worried so much. Although the next day feels the same, another pair of hands makes all the difference from everything being on your own shoulders to knowing you have someone who can help you achieve something however small. Just say to yourself "I managed to do this and it opened a new chapter in my life."
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

To add to my last post, it is said that depression is the curse of the strong. I think part of that is because we beat ourselves up because of what we didn't do rather than taking credit for what we managed to do. There are many famous strong people who suffered badly from depression such as Einstein, Winston Churchill (he called it "The Black Dog), Buzz Aldrin, Charles Darwin, Abraham Lincoln, Isaac Newton, and many others. Look at what they managed to achieve and believe you can do the same in your own world.
