About the question you asked about how to keep reasonably fit, get a dog and take it for long walks, and throw a ball for the dog to fetch, when you throw, it exercises your upper body, the further you throw, the further you have to walk to retrieve it,as the dog will likely just sit and look at you, then you exercise your waist bending to pick it up and if you keep a lead on the dog he/she will guide you home for a proper whisky
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
Member of the Nutters Club but I think I am just there to make up the numbers
I lift some weights and use a stationary bicycle but there doesn't seem to be anything to simulate digging enough to keep me from getting sore in the spring time. I'm thinking I just need to start out slower.
I like your suggestion, especially the whiskey part. With 4 dogs there's no lack of companions for a walk around the property.
I don't know where I am in the 'getting old' league but I am 74. I have a yard at the top of the garden 0which is 1.25 acres, about half of it is cultivated with fruit - 19 young top fruit trees as well as bush fruit - and vegetables. The rest is a battle ground with brambles, nettles, bracken and sticky buds. Because my sight is very poor I grow the veg in rows and tubs and use minimum cultivation. I am not an organic gardener. We get lots of cyclists and jiggered joggers passing by and I often tell them I can give them far more productive exercise in the yard.
