  • Anyone in Bulgaria out there. Advice needed.

We are shortly to move out to Bulgaria and am brushing up on the old veg growing thing, and thanks to this site Im on a steep learning curve at the moment. Obviously its going to be a lot different gardening out there in the hot sun, so anyone who has experience of this, well I would be most interested in hearing your advice.

Brill site this one though, have learnt so much already just reading your posts everyone. Cant wait till next year when I can eat some of my own grown veggies. Right now, Im just practicing my cooking skills on the recpies I get off this site and use the stuff I buy from the supermarket. Has transformed mine and hubbies eating, I can tell you. Much healthier. So thanks to all those who put up tasty recpies.

Hi Cameo - welcome to the Vine!

Your wish is our command - we have our very own Bulgarian grape -Phreddy - and I'm sure he'll be along in due course....

        Hiya,

We've just set up a smallholding/gardening site for people in Bulgaria. It's attached to our store, the Bulgarian Smallholder. The store isn't up and running yet, but the forum is.

        http://www.bulgariansmallholder.com/forum .

We're hoping it will some day be as successful as this one!

Good luck with gardening in Bulgaria, I went there once and it looked like a lovely fertile place. lots of veggie growing going on - lots of grape vines and sunflowers - I think last year was terrible in terms of drought but whether that's a sign of things to come, who knows.

              Thanks!

Yes, it was pretty awful. Weeks at a time over 40C, and our water was cut off every other day! The tomatoes and cabbages weren't happy, though the peppers seemed to enjoy it.

But the neighbors assure us that this is not normal, so we'll see. It's making up for it now... Rain and/or snow every day!

Phreddy is in Bulgaria half the year - can't remember which bit he's in now though?
