Used to hear a beeping every morning at 6am - turned out to be a watch with an alarm that OH didn't wear anymore. Made him turn it off fairly quickly after that......
    Another happy Nutter...

I've certainly been woken in the small hours by toddlers 'noisy toys' shifting in their box such that they start playing nursery rhymes or making animal noises - how easy is it to remove the battery?

I sometimes hear strange noises or see unexpected things.....but it's mainly linked to an occasional pastime......alcohol

Miss M. Other strange happenings... footsteps on the ceiling above the lounge which I put down to changes in temperature. Things I've been looking for reappearing in the place I know I left them in the first place. A pair of earrings I hadn't seen for 2 years sitting in the middle of the conservatory floor, they're silver and they weren't remotely tarnished for having been missing for all that time. My background is scientific so I always look for the sensible answer.
I also have a scientific background and the best way to prove something it to do everything to disprove it then what you're left with is a reasonable possibility. For an untarnished piece of silver to be found on your conservatory floor after two years - um. Presuming the floor is regularly cleaned (am sure it is) did you had a tidy-up beforehand in case it had got lodged in or behind something that excluded any air getting in? I find it tends to be the most rational people who have these sort of happenings. My late great aunt and uncle were tenants in an old farm house and not ones to stand any nonsense. One night when they were on their own aunty said "there goes my lady again" to which uncle said "You've seen her as well". They were in the sitting room and both lights were on in there and also the hallway. Suddenly there was a rustling noise like someone in a long dress would make and underneath the ill-fitting door they both saw a shadow moving along the hall. They both felt she meant no harm.

              I don't have a scientific background
If an electrical device works but isn't plugged in, there must be some other power source - which is why I asked if there was a battery in the sewing machine, since this alternative power supply hadn't been mentioned.
If JanieB switches the machine on and the battery is flat, I suggest this may be the cause.

I don't have a scientific background but I do believe in spirits visiting us especially the young, you get to an age where it scares you & it stops. When I was about five I shared a bedroom with my sister,we had a gangway between our beds & our mum would stand between both beds, one night I was facing the wall, gangway behind me & I saw a rounded shadow coming from the right to the left,so I turned round expecting my mum to be there, but there was no one there & I slept under the blanket for years after that. When I was in my teens I worked out that was around the time my grandma had died. When my daughter was a baby in her cot, about one yr old,in the night I'd lay there looking at her for ages & she used to do these hand movements & laughing at something above her cot, playing & I know there was something there that I couldn't see. But I think it's the machine letting you know the battery needs replacing.

We lived in a house that had something or someone there. My cat use to 'watch' something and I use to hear someone or something going upstairs and walking round the room.

Who do you live with? Reminds me of an old film with the husband trying to convince the wife she's cracking up.

If you're asking me, I've lived on my own since Brian died 12 years ago. The bit I haven't said as i hope it's not relevant is that it was the anniversary of his funeral. The earrings were ones he gave to me just before he died.

It could be relevant but in a loving way. On holiday recently I was with some friends of ours but I didn't know their daughter or that she was a medium. She volunteered a reading and said someone was watching over me. Her description matched my late dad-in-law to a T, and a word similar to Rambo or rainbow kept coming into her mind. His name was Raymond and we had a special bond between us. There was no way she could have known that because I hardly knew he and, her parents didn't know anything about Raymond.
