Anyone doing film photography?

Last night I bought a 35mm camera body. This morning I had a couple of 'What were you thinking?' moments but then I recovered.

35mm film camera prices are amazing to the point of being unbelievable. Of course if the lenses can be used with a digital camera they aren't going to be as much of a bargain.

Do any of you use film cameras? Digital cameras work but I really don't like them. That was the first camera I've bought for myself other than the used one I bought for a quarter when I was around 7 or 8 years old. Off-and-on I've been using a hand-me-down digital camera that my wife bought. Now I'm going to have my own camera even though it's over 30 years old.

There's just something about film photography.

I won't be posting pictures taken with that camera.

I have my old 35mm camera, but don't use it anymore, I also sold my medium format Mamiya as well, difficult getting the film developed, so now just a digital 'togger.

A lot of the photos I take are delete worthy so I like the digital camera,I remember taking my 35mm films to the chemist to get developed & all sorts of rubbish photos coming back on them. Although it's also nice having those photos to look back on. Ive still got my old 35mm cameras,they were good cameras about 25 years ago,I don't think I'd use them again,I don't know why I'm such a hoarder?

I've been hearing that film is making a comeback. Rumor has it that Kodak may begin making one of their old films again. Polaroid film has become available again ... sort of ... for a few cameras and Fuji has come out with some instant cameras and instant film (Instax). The Polaroid stuff is now coming out under the Polaroid Originals name. They have a new camera coming out in October.

Interesting times.

I wonder if vinyl records will ever come back. Oh, wait. They already have.

Honestly I felt guilty when I bought that camera body last night. I handed the guy the amount he asked for and asked him if that was right. I felt like I was stealing it from him. I know that he wanted the going price but I'm still not over it.

I have a cupboard full of old cameras, filters and lenses - and video cameras. I even have my father's old Brownie Box camera. Think its made of cardboard?
Don't use any of them but can't bear to chuck them.

My brother is a keen photographer and I often tag along on his photo weekends. I used to use my trusty Olympus OM10...35? I forget anyway just like JJ I ended up with a pile of rubbish after taking my film to boots....digital all the way for me now.....though I'm keeping the Olympus, just incase

Have to say I'm a digital fan. The children tend to make silly faces and poses so digital handy or getting that elusive good shot!

Have started printing out the best ones lately and backing up in multiple formats and places though - had a scare when I thought I'd lost 18 months of photos from when eldest was born which would have been devastating.

Digital here as well. I seem to spend most of my time taking photos of vegetables these days!!! I used to do a lot of wildlife photography. Also really enjoyed macro photography ( insects & flowers ). I've still got all the gear, So the opportunity is still there.

Since I have the gear I'm sure I'll still take pictures on the digital camera too when I want to post something online. I want to do some semi-serious practice with the film camera.

My sister gave our mother a new Polaroid SX-70 many years ago. Mom never used it. She gave it back to my sister and she never used it. I asked her about it last week and I offered to buy it from her but she won't sell it. She wants to give it to me. Once I get that it should be interesting to mess around with it a bit but the new replacement film for Polaroids leaves a lot to be desired. In a couple more years it may be okay. The price has come down on the Polaroid type film but it's still expensive.

Anyway, shortly I should have another type of film camera to use if I can afford to use it.

Would never go back to film. My Canon DSLR takes all the lenses, extension tubes etc from SLR. The only thing I had to replace was the flash.

Where the digital scores is in poor light or where flash is banned. In fact after spending all that money I've hardly ever needed to use the flash gun.

Like DannyK I wouldn't go back to film, with digital you can take loads of pictures and delete as required, as you know not so with film, the number of poor photos I took with film and had to pay to get them developed would cover the cost of a digital camera

My back up hard disk just gone haywire! Fortunately all photos also backed up on Flckr. I can recommend Flckr as it allows you to store photos without reduction of resolution and makes sharing a piece of cake. There's a good article at https://www.lifewire.com/what-is-flickr-4147535

And a word of warning to anyone with a very old external hard drive for back up; think about replacing it.

I'm a digital fan. We're spending this weekend cataloguing Dad's old cameras for selling on fleabay. And backing up our own images!
