  • Planning my new Kingdom

So the paperwork arrived for the overgrown plot next to mine yesterday and I'm now the proud owner of Plot 1 as well as 1A. I need to measure the exact length of the new plot but proportionally what I've drawn up is this morning is very near.

Here is the existing Plot 1A

Nice one Cads, how many square metres do both plots add up to, it looks a fair bit.

The plan was to put in Permanent beds on my Spencer Road allotment and asparagus is something I really love and want to have and will defiantly happen. Plot 1 has a globe artichoke growing in there but I have never eaten it and may work around it and try it before I take it out, there is also a nice eating apple tree and rhubarb on plot 1. I have rhubarb growing in a flower bucket that is planned for bed 15 on plot 1A

There is a step between plots 1A and 1 and I would like to have access straight onto the plots. At the moment I have to walk along the bottom of plot 1 and then along the grassed foot path between plots 1 & 2 and at this time of the year get soaking wet if I don't wear wellingtons.

What I have drawn as paved is the main route into plot 1, up towards the shed and greenhouse area and then heading towards the end of the existing path on plot 1A. There is a ramp between plots 1 & 1A as there is a difference in level of around 150 - 200mm.

The L shape at the bottom and side is likely to be a mixture of trees grown as a living fence comfrey and wild flowers for the bees.

Paths will initially be woodchip with the exception of the main path, for which I have enough slabs on the Spencer Road plot 23B which I have paid for until October 2018 which gives me time to get the site cleared where the shed and greenhouse are planned to go. I will grow vegetables on Spencer Road that are low maintenance like potatoes, Marrows, Squash etc. which can basically be planted and left to it.

So getting in everything above beds 17 - 24 and the main path is my objective for 2018 and everything below the main path in 2019 if I'm being realistic.

I need to measure as the council assume a greater area than most plots actually are, but until I can clear the dogs leg and get in there I will not know exactly, plot 1A is drawn accurately and I have extended the boundary line forward, the wall is off the OS map so that should be nearly right, its the bottom of the plot that I've estimated the location off.

Once I have measured I will let you know but the paths are 600 wide and the beds are 2.4m x 1.2m and the fruit cages are made of two 1.8 x 1.8m greenhouse frames connected together.

My second plot is on a different allotment around the corner from this one as I was thinking that I would have to move as they are building on two sides of the allotment site and there would be nowhere to park. But I managed to sweet talk the contractors into helping us create a drop off and pick up area (we are not allowed to call it a car park) so that means that not only can I remain here but I can take on the plot next to mine.

Working two plots with restricted access on one has been a nightmare, I'm looking forward to just having one large plot that I can now get to and Plot 1 is the first plot in from the drop off and pick up area

If parking is bad...had you thought of sacrificing beds 17 and 18 to creating a parking area for yourself?
                Just a thought!

It had crossed my mind, but as you can see until filled with a load of woodchip and manure (which should not remain there long) the pick up area is large enough for 5 - 6 cars which is the max we are likely to have if those of us that use cars, as we are not within walking distance all come at once. If it becomes a problem I do have that option.

Google Map Images look to be 2016 vintage

We used to park in the car park to the office complex behind the wall to plot 1 & 1A but that building is being turned into residential properties the factories along the boundary of plots 9 - 14A have been demolished and are now residential properties are being built. There will be no space to park outside in the access roads once these two developments are completed as it will be allocated parking bays all around.

Enjoy.... having two plots together proves so much easier. My two together are around 580 m2 and I still run out of space

Not really Snoops, Spencer Road will be going next October after I manage to get the Paving Slabs, Shed, Composting Daleks, Comfrey Pipe, Greenhouse and other useful items onto Plot 1 and have harvested stuff that I will grow over there.
