I certainly remember playing in snow in the early part of the year, and the school milk having "lollipops" of frozen milk pushing off the silver tops and sticking out of the bottles.

I wonder if this winter will be as bad.....
I hope that volcano in Bali doesn't erupt or it could be a distinct possibility. Past volcanic eruptions in AD 535, Mt. Sam Blas in 1257 (in Paraguay near the equator), 1783 (Laki in Iceland), 1815 (Mt. Tambora in Indonesia which gave rise to the Year without a summer due to the air pollution blocking out the sun's rays) seem to have contributed in promoting a long spell of cold weather.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

Really enjoyed reading this thread.. Can't relate to a lot of it being only mid 30's myself, and as such I'm feeling very fortunate to have been able to grow up having a bathroom as a designated space within the house.
But I can appreciate the feeling on standards of driving in winter, though i don't think in general it's anybody's fault if you're south of the Midlands. It's annoying if someones' miscalculation proves an inconvenience, but these days significant snowfall in the southern counties and along the south coast is such a rare event no-one has the opportunity to practice driving in such conditions, so they're always caught out on the odd occasion they do occur. Literally a one, possibly two day event of snow causes absolute chaos in and around London. We had a bit last year and I spent the night in my car in a Morrisons carpark because I couldn't get up the hill to where I live. By mid morning the following day the gritters had been through and the sun was out and the roads were passable again. Always feel a bit embarrassed when we're paralysed by a few inches of the white stuff but like I say it's talked about a lot but very rarely comes to pass..
