    • I've been talking to ladybirds. There seem to be quite a few around at the moment.
They don't say much but they're good listeners.

      • Had the biggest giggle at the play park today. Three older guys walked past, one talking into walkie talkie, super posh accent, saying "daddy will come with the Volvo for squadron delta, over". A little while later one old Volvo went past and a few minutes later a brand new one. Never did find out who or what squadron delta was, but we had fun guessing and keeping a look out for any Volvos making the return trip.

              • Eating my first potato harvest: boiled anya and kestrel potatoes dressed in salted butter, mint (from the garden) and black pepper. I almost never buy potatoes (less than once per year) so I was worried I would struggle to eat all the ones I'm growing this year. However, having eaten these, I think I can confidently say that I will not struggle to get through them!

                • That hopefully the ‘storm’ will result in a calm and we can all jog along as normal.

                  • I am a grandparent!!!!!!! To several invertebrates admittedly.
After months and months there are baby worms in my wormery. I had given up hope but there they are. They (typically for young things) seem more keen than their parents on travelling.
I have been inspired by this to start another worm box and have made up a tasty mix of a coir block, shredded cardboard and sieved leafmould for them. This time I will buy more worms to hopefully get it going and multiplying before Autumn. My current worm box only processes really small amounts of kitchen scraps and I haven't taken any worm compost from it yet. Maybe next year.....but somehow I don't mind if I don't as these creatures are now more like pets for me. I know this is ridiculous.

..............and he asked me how the garden was and seemed impressed by the 117 courgettes I've picked and asked why I hadn't brought him some.

                            • The kindness of Husband's colleagues, who having learned how we were treated at a rescue centre, contacted us to say they were appalled and did we by any chance have a place in our heart for the runt of the litter their MIL still had?

We go to meet Rosie tomorrow. She is a tabby. I have had Siamese, gingers, black cats, grey cats, torties, but have always wanted a tabby...

The kindness of my friend and neighbour, who took us in and entertained the boys while I cried all over her, her husband, her daughter, her daughter's husband, her daughter's daughter and her daughter's husband's dog.* There was a shopping delivery and a cat involved somewhere, but I was preoccupied.

But also the pride and satisfaction of Husband, who metaphorically rushed to our rescue in distress and solved our problem. I swear he stood two inches taller all evening.

*I exaggerate. I only cried on the husband. And the dog.

"Why is he happy?" I hear you ask...........because the curds have been harvested and because they are in pots they are now outside the netted area as ....................decoys......
