I always thought the 'likes' should be linked to the MOM but realise this would be unworkable.

I like the like button as it does show that ideas, advice and points of view are appreciated.
I wouldn't like a dislike button as it could end up with members being targeted etc
I would like an 'I'm sorry' or a 'What a blugger' or a 'Hug' button on the Rant thread but nowhere else.I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison

Thanks for the replies Folks, as I have said I am not on any other social media forum, as from what I have read or heard about some of them they can cause a lot of unpleasantness, and perhaps the young folk are too immature for being on the forums, and I believe there is a minimum age requirement for some of them, which is not adhered to, nor would I like to see a dislike button being available, possibly a disagree button, and a sorry button for when something unfortunate has happened, as how can you put a like in for a that, the more I think on it all the possible things that would be required would become unmanageable, though I do think there should be something else other than "like "it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

I agree with Scarlet and Kevin. It's simple to click on the like button just to agree or acknowledge that you've read the post especially if a reply is not necessary. On another forum I use, with no like button, people resort to quoting and then putting "I agree", or " ^^^^^^^^^ yeah, that".
It's also useful if you are reading the post some time after conversation on the thread has petered out but want to agree without starting up a new conversation.
No dislike buttons please. If you can't say something nice, say nowt.Last edited by mothhawk; 04-01-2018, 02:55 PM.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land

To be honest...I really didn't like the idea when I heard they would be included in an upgrade of the forum.
Now I'm a total convert...it also shows that people have read your post even when the forum seems very quiet...bit like a quick nod in your direction if you know what I mean?
A 'sympathy like' on the rant thread I see as a sympathetic hug/a shoulder to lean on/someone understands what you are going through....a comforting connection with someone else when you are upset/angry/frustrated"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Perhaps we should have a poll on what a new button should be - then put a "feature request" in and *await* the outcome................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

I like it the way it is.
As others hve said, it a way to acknowledge someones post.
I think a sympathy emoji would be very useful.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
