The AA have warned that anyone travelling in icy conditions should take a shovel, blankets/ sleeping bag, extra clothing (including scarf, hat and gloves), 24 hour supply of food and drink, de-icer, rock salt, torch, spare battery, petrol can, first aid kit and jump leads,
I felt a right idiot on the bus!

In winter I always have food, drink, wellies, extra clothing (usually just because I have my 'plot box' in the car all the time so that wellies, overtrousers, fluffy socks and another coat and hat are there). There's a picnic blanket in the boot. I used to have my Dad's old WW2 entrenching tool in there, but I'm not sure where that got to. Then there's a multi-tool type thing, baby wipes, first aid kit.
And a significant amount of crud.
I could do with adding a baggy of cat litter in lieu of grit/salt and a spade or small shovel.

All year round my car contains:
2 cheap fleece blankets (used as seat covers but handy in emergencies/for picnics)
bag of unsalted nuts in glove compartment
bar of 90% cocoa choc in door pocket
2 torches
litre of engine oil
2 litre bottle of water
umbrella
jump leads
miscellaneous small tools - spanners, allen keys, penknife etc
viz vest
plasters
WD 40
selection of cloths
large sheet of polythene
plus in winter half a bucket of road grit from the bin down the road.
No extra clothing since I wear winter clothes all year at work (chilled environment)Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
Endless wonder.

Bit like Mothhawk I suppose.
Keep an old style sleep bag in the car (presently it is wrapped around a small telescope and mount). But it stays in the car. May have at times a fleece blanket but that is not in the car at present.
In the boot is the "emergency" kit: spare trousers, pair thick socks, 1 thermal layer, 1 fleece top, cheap fleece gloves (99p at Decathlon), pyrex cup, sugar, coffee, dried milk, about 3 sachets of chocolate drinks, spoon, 12v kettle, water and a golf jacket. Have 2 or 3 wind up torches in the car so no need for battery ones.
Find that I do tend to take 2 jackets when I go out anyway. I would rather not end up wearing a £100 jacket and having to play around in a gunky engine.
The whole lot is kept in a cheap (very) trolly bag that is tied down with bungee cords in the boot. Cheap being about £5, it is garish red.
When I travel I tend to throw in the car a small cool box of things anyway, cold squash being the main. Usually a raid on Lidl for a couple of packs of Twix and Mars like choccy bars.
Kettle is by Go Design and at the time was good (still is) but the design could be better. I by chance found the better design option about 8 years ago so bought one of them also. So I have 3 12v kettles, I have 2 Go ones owing to reasons. The heating elenemt orientation on the Go one is not great, but it does work well. I very often stop and make myself a coffee.

Mine has: blanket, spare jumper, star spanner, jump leads, water (for both car and person), oil, can of fuel. I reckon I can survive without food for a day or two."I prefer rogues to imbeciles as they sometimes take a rest" (Alexander Dumas)

This thread was more amusing than I thought from the title........because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. (Veggie Chicken - 25/01/18)
