Just tried it. I find it very hard to see on my screen, not enough contrast between the black screen and the content.

If 'puter screens are grey, how do we get black background on them?

Never heard of it. Like the less energy bit but don't like the squinting to read it bit!!!!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've added it to my favourites. Anything to reduce the power usage eh!

I didn't know about this, but I did read a while ago about how if the main Google page was black it would save about £40,000 a year in electricity costs. Sounds like they actually did something about it.

I like the idea but there is no search only .co.uk sites which I use alot.

Can use it for everything else though...

                      hey!
Google has turned out the lights!
I clicked on normal google today and it's turned all black... have a look, it's real pretty

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone.

unfortunately, we'll be sitting down to a black tie dinner at 8pm. Mind you, it would mean I didn't have to spruce myself up quite so much, if it was all dark.

I like the idea of turning the lights out tonight between 8 and 9pm!

I'll be doing it for sure!
And probably change the clocks at the same time!!

Great idea - count me and Jeannine in!

I'm sure we can think of something to do in the dark for an hour...

They reckon it doesn't save any energy anyway:

Google users in the United Kingdom will notice today that we "turned the lights out" on the Google.co.uk homepage as a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour. As to why we don't do this permanently - it saves no energy; modern displays use the same amount of power regardless of what they display.

I find white on a black background rather hard on the eyes. I believe there are certain standards for web pages to ensure they can be read by people with impaired vision and they never use a black background.
