I have a stove top fan which is running erratically. If I tap the base it will start and sometimes keeps on running. It has a metal spring type device under the base which my other one doesn't have. I don't think the problem is with the Peltier module but a mechanical one. Any suggestions please.

Hmm. Not sure what to say. We have one and Mr Snoop insists it should never be cleaned or banged in any way, as the parts are quite sensitive, he says. Maybe something in the works has got dislodged and tapping it temporarily knocks it back into position. We've had ours quite a number of years now. At the start of the season, I literally blow the cobwebs and dust off and that's it. I wish I could give it a good scrub though!

That's a very different design to ours. We've got this, a gift from a friend:

It has a similar strip with screw underneath, both inset so that even the screw head doesn't quite touch the stove. The screw head itself is one of those recessed types rather than protruding. I'll ask Mr Snoop as I'm intrigued. He's away today, so I'll get back to you later.
I notice on the website they sell spare motors, so maybe they do eventually fail. We've had ours about ten years so far, in use six months or so of the year.
Is it feasible for you to return it and get a replacement?

Sorry to say that didn't work. However I found a u tube video about fans that run slow and it said to replace the thermal paste either side of the Peletier module. So I have ordered some and as soon as it comes it will be screwdrivers at the ready and the fan in bits.Gardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Well, I did contact the Chinese company and the result was that they have sent me a new Peltier module and motor. It has taken a while but I was quite impressed with them. All I have to do now is fit them!!!Gardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Lou Erickson, critic and poet
