I wish I'd seen this thread earlier and commented before your talk started.

First of all, it is 100% normal to be very nervous beforehand. I always try to inject small attempts at humour during a talk (nothing smutty mind) and that tends to get the audience onside. I also always make the audience welcome to ask questions during the talk. Some would find that a distraction but I find it easier to deal with a query whilst any slides I'm using can be accessed without having to scroll back for them. At the end, I always invite questions and say if I don't know the answer to the question asked. I don't intend my talks to be a bluffer's guide and audiences seem to appreciate that. If at the end of the talk my audience has learned something, I'm a happy bunny. If I feel a sense of relief after it's all done and dusted, I accept I must have been a bit nervous beforehand even although I havent realised it. The big trick is to stand in front of a mirror and rehearse your presentation a few times so that your totally comfortable with what your about to say. You'll find you are your own biggest critic

Thank you, you lovely people. Local hort soc seemed pleased and I had lots of questions at the seed table. After a slightly wobbly start I really enjoyed it. We stopped after an hour & a half and no one was asleep!! Next one in June...

Well done. Now to arrange an increase in your fees, we won't get you up to Tony Blair levels but business is business :-)

                            Congratulations.

And what a great thing to be able to teach people to do, as well.

                              All round, brilliant.
