it's not that I'm Bad, I'm just not as good as I could be...
Also, I've got vitalago - it's getting a bit more pronounced on my hand and I reckon I got some sun damage and maybe even a blister from that over the last couple of days.
So, I need to wear gloves more I guess. Any advice for gloves to wear when doing delicate jobs like sowing? Would nitrite ones be 'sensitive' enough for seed handling etc?

I can never manage to do anything in gloves for long - put them on when I'm dealing with roses etc then 5 minutes later I've had enough and taken them off again.

How about finger-less ones for seed sowing ?

There are some good waterproof sun-creams around, if you don't want to wear gloves.

What about a pair of ‘medical’ gloves? I think the ‘powder free latex’ ones would,be slightly better than ‘nitrile’, providing you are not latex allergic. (nitrile are a fraction thicker so you lose a bit more tactile sensation). Roughly £4-5 for box of 100 online

Alternatively, a gazebo you could move around the plot to create shade where you are working?

I wear gloves most of the time, but take them off to sow, handle fleece or netting and tie string. I have one pair for rough, muddy jobs, and one for less mucky ones (actually several of each!)

If you can make yourself acquire the habit of having them on unless you need to do some fine work, would that help? I often put barrier cream or good, thick hand cream on before putting on the gloves, or the skin around my fingertips starts to split - clay soil = very drying mud/dust.

I cannot stand the sensation of mud/much pushing up under my fingernails, so gardening without gloves would turn from a pleasure to an ordeal for me.

I like the nitrile gloves, but have to wear cotton gloves underneath, to soak up any moisture. For any heavier work that would ruin the nitriles in a minute flat, I use gloves that does let moisture through, they're like a thick mesh type material, but protects your hands and resists most of the muck.
