  • Why do you like this forum?

Today has been a particularly hard day but I have scuttled into the Vine several times for some 'normality'

I started thinking about why other Grapes value the Vine so much and wondered why.

For me its a combination of -

I've learnt and am still learning about nature whether it be veg, flowers, bees or chickens.
I get new ideas about 'how to' in a tiny garden.
I feel part of community when my home life means I am very isolated.
I realise that I am not the only 'one' who has home issues.
Posts make me laugh but sometimes I wish I could do something to help those in distress.
I've learn't (maybe) how to grow radish.
I've learn't that the weather frustrates everyone.

So, to all YOU lovely Grapes - Thank You!

I like this forum for the same reason I like dogs. They are always pleased to see you, never criticize, never complain, often make you laugh, are always there when you need company, enjoy being out in the garden, and ALWAYS, always cheer you up if you feel down in the dumps.

        Love you guys.

Why do I like this Forum, to be truthful its the only forum I have ever been on so don't know what other are like(though when I was younger there was a magazine called The Forum, which was a wee bit different from this) but back to the question, I have enjoyed this one, when I first joined I had a bit of agro but decided to come back on, as there was a lot of good information and a lot of nice helpful people on it, much the same a society in general more nice folk than nasty . Though I have never met any other members of the Vine I consider you as friends, I try to help folks with an answer, (though sometimes I would be better not giving an answer) I do try to pass on a smile, as I do think it is help to people if they can smile, again why the Vine, its far better than the telly, and I share it with friends

Its a good place with good people (mostly)- and it puts up with me even when I'm less than good. Even me and VC manage to rub along.. for the most part. Never know what sort of thread you might find...

Interesting thread, I go on dozens of other forums, fishing rugby, model railways, photography and even the odd other gardening ones now and again. This is one I constantly return to, for most of the reasons already said, always look forward to seeing what other folk are up to. I do meet up with folk from other forums, but not this one as I'm a bit out of the way up here.

Hopefully I contributed a bit in return for all the fun, laughs, support, encouragement and shoulders to cry on.

                      Firstly sending lumpy hugs xx

This forum - I had absolutely zero experience of plants or gardening when I suddenly decided I wanted to give it a bash and I don’t do things by half and lead in gently, it’s all or nothing and the advice and help I’ve received and the friendliness of everyone has been amazing!

Since I am now finally getting on top of my mistake of sowing full packets, on the same day, of all of my initial seeds and nearly all of them surviving I am about to start my second lot of sowing for my next round of new veggies so I’m sure I’ll be back on asking ridiculous obvious questions and hopefully getting the same supportive answers -

                      A lovely bunch of people

This is the only forum I return to on a regular basis, though I'm probably an irregular contributor.
Prior to discovering this one I used the BBC gardening forum but that's long since closed.
I dip in and out of a few others of varying interests; parrots, aquariums, current affairs..
What I like about this forum is the vibrant, positive, friendly community that make it. And with the few subjects I have a bit of knowledge on, I'm guaranteed to find lots of likeminded, equally enthusiastic folks to shoot the breeze with, while for the areas of gardening that still allude me, I know there'll always be many more experienced and patient folk around happy to offer advice. Books and seed packets are fine but they'll always be a bit generic; hands on experience of what really works, and how it varies in different parts of the country and beyond, is both fascinating and invaluable

Why, because GYO is easy to spell

On a serious note, it's a place where anyone is welcome. As already said, most are complete strangers but all are virtual friends. Just like real friends we share the tears and laughter that is part of life's rich tapestry. Being able to share a trouble without fear of judgement is priceless.....plus we have a Lumpy

Gosh! Lumpy you covered most of mine in the first post, I know we share the norty steps on occasions but it's nice having a virtual elephant in my life. My cosmic Twin and fellow norty boy Balders plays here and come to think about it there are so many Vine members who feel as if they are now part of my life. I miss the Big Guy when he is off fishing and not contributing and I have leant so much from this place.

Not my first gardening forum but after being expelled on mass with a lot of nice people most of there are on here and we have remain because it is such a well moderated site with members that have the most important thing, a sense of humour and fun.

Plus VC with her stick reminds me of my old school mistress Bessy Baines with her cane which she applied with gusto on many an occasion.

Bigs hugs from me too x

I joined as it helped feed a seed addiction but soon found it was a lifeline and a fantastic community. Friendly, generous, accepting, supportive, daft, non discriminating. There are a lot of things I am thankful to grapes for and I have no doubts that my gardening has progressed to where it is because of the vine. I am not a big people person or very trusting but I have always been able to be me and think of many grapes as friends. (I will stop before I get super soppy)
