When I joined I lurked for years and didn't post at all. (I know what you're all thinking.)
It did feel a bit intimidating then and there were some people with very fixed ideas and not much sense of humour - at least that's how it felt to this little innocent.
Gradually, I became more confident of posting and even (sit down) starting threads. I think I've overcome that now!!
When new members joined there wasn't much of a welcome - That has changed now and I hope that every new member feels at home and able to ask questions without feeling foolish.
I think this is a great community and is very supportive and generous in all sorts of ways.

    Long may it remain so.

    Vive la Vine

Hope that's right or the French Mods will send me to the Norty step with Lumpy and Cads.

Yep, VC but just while I express my latest thought (I really do need to take more tablets)

OK so to me this forum needs a stable core otherwise the outside would collaspse.
I'd like to think that I am part of that core but I don't care if I'm not because those that are are NOT -

            Patronizing
            Dismissive
            Unfriendly

It does not seem to matter whether its a plan for the future, window box, lottie or massive estate as everyone gets treated the same as long as they abide by the rules of support, friendly and accepting.
We go from the serious to the daft as a box of frogs (hello VC but Ta for making me think outside the box).
            Everything enhances this forum.

            OK nuff said.

Though I have never met any other members of the Vine I consider you as friends, I try to help folks with an answer, (though sometimes I would be better not giving an answer) I do try to pass on a smile, as I do think it is help to people if they can smile, again why the Vine, its far better than the telly, and I share it with friends

I prefer not to answer that on the grounds of VC thinking I am older than I say or am

I've never really engaged with the gardeners rest but can see that lots find it great. Same with a thread like this - it's not for everyone but that doesn't matter. Can't speak for Cadalot but having had an "interesting" tenure at another gardening forum I'm somewhat amazed that I've not run into trouble here (well, not much trouble ) There's a certain "joie de vivre" here that I love...

A forum is for discussion and I have been known to change my mind on a matter after exchanges and information that I didn't have has been provided. Debate is always good. Here you are allowed to do that well apart from jokes and there is always some that will spoil a good thing which is obviously what happened in the past.

Did someone mention the Gardeners rest? Mine's a guinness. The GR is such a load of nonsense it's for me at least impossible not to join in and definitely impossible not to enjoy but that's a seasonal thing at a time when there's not much going on in the garden/plot. AS for the forum itself, I too feel at home being a nutter among nutters but it is genuinely a huge source of information for novices and experienced gardeners as well. I never used to manage to visit much in the summer months because of work commitments but I'm now retired and manage on in the evenings but too busy daytime for some reason. I too feel a sense of community and like all communities from time to time there have been people who don't do it for me but the vast majority are my kind of people. I don't do the friend thing on here, well there is one exception cos who wouldn't be friends with her.

OMG Aberdeenplotter you nailed it, most of the people I love on here are fellow nutters ! It took me a year to get into the Gardeners Rest at Christmas now I love it.
