      • Good morning all.
The worst of the storm passed overnight.
We have a dry breezy morning.
Nothing planned for today except g daughter coming for lunch.
        Stay safe all.

        • Morning, been awol for a bit although have been keeping up with things on my phone, just not signed in on it. Hope you are all well.

Terrible night last night between the wind and rain and someone in the street hammering and drilling at 1am!! What?!

Bit of a warning to you all here. My mum has been in hospital (she is 87) after a fall caused by gout in her ankle. On discharge I read her discharge letter and noticed the initials DNACPR. A do not rescucitate order had been placed on her records without either her or us knowing anything about it! She is also quite deaf but remembers a woman coming to the ward asking questions and her telling her that she didn't know what certain initials meant. Very worrying indeed, especially as my mum is planning her 100th birthday.
Her own GP has placed a note in her records saying she would want to be rescucited if the worst happened but here is the rub...he also said that if she is taken into hospital again WE should perhaps mention this to staff! Really?! What if we are not there?

Anyhoo just wanted to get the word out there.

Hope you all have a great day and are not too affected by Storm Callum!

          • Morning all, really windy up here. TV so exciting innit. No not the folks arriving for the wedding, it's seeing the hats blowing off and trying to guess whose is going to fly away next.

            • Happy Friday from not-at-all-sunshiny South Wales.
Never mind the rain, I've just had an invigorating cold shower. Didn't know when I stepped into the shower that there was a power cut in the area and there wasn't enough electricity to heat the water!!

Chapter 2 - Total power cut so I swept the kitchen floor as something to do without electric in the gloom.

CHapter 3 - And then there was light. The road outside has turned into a stream - its a day to stay in and play with seeds. I've filled a flask with hot water in case the power goes again - that's for coffee, not my shower.

Hope you're all dry, warm and safe.

              • A grey and windy morning here, but can't complain when I can see what others have Stay safe everyone!

I think it'll have to be a domestics day, it does need it but will find time to resow my spring cabbage - some little blighter has nipped the head off of each seedling, no slime either. Wonder who did that

                Have a good'un

                    • Did anybody else watch the royal wedding.
Just spent a very enjoyable morning watching this young couple starting their married life together.
                      They were both radient.
She looked amazing and they were so lucky the rain held off for them.
Loved watching all the glamour and some great hats.

In summary, a crap year for me, although I have had a half decent haul from what I sowed, but hey, lets clear the boards n start again next year.

Glad To be back on board, and hoping now things fixed at work can actually get back to gardening, it really couldn't get any worse.

                            • Jay, the hospital will have a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). Or they might be called a Compliments, Concerns and Complaints service in Scotland. If you call the hospital switchboard and ask to go through to them (or there will be an email address on the hospital website), you can raise a concern and they should liaise with the right people to address that concern. It sounds like the communication you have had from the hospital team hasn't been very effective, and they should be able to put that right even if they choose to leave a DNACPR in the records.

Legally, a DNACPR is a medical decision and not a patient's (just as you can't insist that you have an operation that your surgeons/anaesthetists do not feel is appropriate, you cannot insist that you are given CPR) but there is also a legal obligation to involve patients in that decision making (or their proxy, if the patient is unable to participate or can participate but wants others involved) unless that is impossible due to a very acute deterioration.

You and your mother might find this guide helpful.

I'm not wishing to get into a debate about the ethics of any of this (because that's not really appropriate for a gardening forum!), just hoping that some practical advice and clarification of the law may be helpful as many people have misconceptions about the legal aspects of treatment decisions in healthcare.

                              • Good evening, my what a change in the weather, started off this morning nice and warm with a slight breeze then by the afternoon it was cold, wet and windy, though possibly the fact that I had been on a plane could account for the big change and also found out that my daughter wasn't trying to wind us up as once we were coming close to Britain the flight was a bit rougher, enjoyed my holiday but glad to be back home, I think my next holiday will be down to the Lake District, there's not such a variance in the temperature when you head back home and I note that there must have been some cold nights while I was away as the temp. recorder showed 3.5c in the greenhouse, well I think I will be in bed early tonight as there is nowhere where the bed is as good as your own, so with that I will wish you all a goodnight
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
