  • Mornings!

Not chilly this morning so much nicer than the last few
Light cloud and quite windy, but it's nice enough to munch my toast in the big greenhouse

    Have a good'un

    • Good morning all.
A bit of a misty start to the day but it's beginning to brighten up.
Off to church shortly and then we are out for a bit of retail therapy.
      Have a good day all.

      • I think I've been a bad gardener this week. I went out to do some watering yesterday and everything looked very wilty and sad. I think I may not have done any watering since last Sunday! I usually water at least alternate days. I think I'd left it Monday and Tuesday because I was shattered and then it was drizzling a bit when I got home on Wednesday so I left it, but actually there wasn't very much rain at all. Then on Thursday and Friday, it tipped it down while I was at work (which is not far from home as the crow flies) but it must have not rained at home because everything was so dry when I went out to check yesterday.

        Whoops.

I think most things will spring back now they've had a good watering, but my maincrop potatoes are not looking very happy at all. I may be harvesting some very small rooster potatoes when the time comes! They are due to be harvested in a month, but I'll have to tip them out sooner if the foliage doesn't recover over this coming week.

          • Good evening, it has been a very wet day today, though felt quite mild, started off being awakened by my daughter's dog as we have been watching her while they were away on holiday, normally she just lies in her bed till we get up but this morning she was scratching at the door so got up to let her out, stood at the door looking out and then about turned at went for her ball, its a heavy rubber ball, I roll it away she runs and picks it up and brings it back, we were doing that for quite a time while I made the porridge, then OH appeared complaining about the noise we were making, so after breakfast was out for a walk and fortunately it was dry, back home getting ready for church and it started raining and raining heavily, and it has been that all day, and I think its to stay like that for the rest of the week, so don't know what we will do with the boy's, for their last week of holidays. Enjoy your week and keep a smile on your face. Goodnight

Managed to get to the medieval show, the WW2event and the poetry/musical event !
Feeling very guilty as I should now really be concentrating on crafting as I have a huuuge event in less than 4weeks
Still need to make time for my swimming though.
Well...I have to admit that I had a fantastic day

Rary...How near the coast are you?
Would the boys enjoy collecting seaweed with you for your garden/veg?
Good excuse for an exhausting run around and a picnic!

Today I shall mostly be found crafting and ironing, although I may make a cake with some of the windfalls.
              Dorset applecake maybe?..mmm..

Kettle's on...help yrselves. Watermelon for breakfast...

              See ya later peeps....

                • Hot here, as per. One weather site says we should have had rain this morning, but not a cloud in the sky. It also says light rain this afternoon. The other site I use says a thunderstorm this afternoon. Wish they'd make up their minds. And that it would be rain.
On a positive note, went past our walnut tree on a walk with the dogs this morning. I was convinced a while back that it had died, but no. A few small shoots are growing here and there. Plus, Mr Snoop told me that the spring at the bottom of our valley had run dry, but there is a tiny, tiny trickle still.

We need a very wet autumn and spring, though. If not, I probably won't grow anything next year. Hardly growing anything this year, but would be very sorry to grow nothing at all.

                  Have a great day everyone.

Its a lovely sunny morning here.
Granddaughter arriving for the day so we will see what she would like to do.
Spending the morning in the garden as I have been away from it for the past two days.
                    Have a good day all.

                    • Morning all.

we have the wet stuff but not going to complain. We went long enough without it. Have a funeral this afternoon so not doing anything that will get me mucky as I'm pretty well washed and brushed for this time of day.

I spent a while yesterday lifting onions to give them a chance to ripen off before our first big show at Dundee just short of three weeks away. Shock horror though. Some of the onions I lifted had been spoiled by the onion root fly.I interplant with french marigolds and this is normally good enough to keep the root fly away. Another downside to the long spell of dry weather as most insects have increased substantially in numbers and I suspect that's why my companion planting hasn't worked as well as usual.

I've even sorted through my seed box this morning and thrown out some Jack O'lantern pumpkin seeds.
Dated 2009. I don't know why I didn't either sow them or throw them out earlier The 2011 Gardeners Delight tomatoes have gone too.

                        • Good evening, it has been a cloudy day today, though no rain but the temp. was only 17c. didn't do much today, a little shopping, booked a holiday, and cut the grass,, then started stripping down some shelves I have in the greenhouse, don't know whither to make them narrower when I rebuild them in the hut, will need to think on that, so now going to read a book weathered no th by worth watching on TV. So take care and enjoy your day tomorrow. Goodnight

                            • Evening all, just back from a long weekend in Ayrshire...''twas wonderful. Had a wee run out to Dumfries too but I don't know if it was the rain but it didn't feel as nice as it was the last time I was there.
Hope you are all well, off to have a quick look around the Vine and then I'm off to Bedfordshire too. See you in the morning!
