  • Intention was to finish the PT today but the weather had other ideas. Base frame and hoops assembled but need connecting together. I was hoping to drive the 900mm site pins in today to anchor the base, always tomorrow.

Netting is going on next week, once I have installed some 150mm edging boards and my buddy has built me a door and frame. I am still not sure if it will be used just for fruit or if I will plant out Brussels and PSB as well

    • Evening!
Managed to do more nettle pulling from the raspberry patch
Just about 1/4 left to do...them mulch it.

Just as I was finishing, We sat out with a glass of bubbly...well, when I say 'sat' I actually meant 'collapsed in a heap on the bench'.....and gently sipped (slurped with gay abandon) whilst listening to the thunder in the distance.
Good timing cos about 10 mins after we came in the heavens opened
      That'll make weeding easier eh?

Early night tonight...well earned -even though I say so myself!

      • Evening all. The day started off a bit overcast but turned into an absolute stunner of a day. Shame really because I had to spend most of it in my tunnel trying to evict a real thug ............... marsh roundwort aka marsh hedge nettle aka stachys palustris. I thought I'd managed to eradicate it last year but when I pulled off the black and white polythene which covered the growing beds, it was evident it was growing as strongly as ever. I shouldn't have been surprised really, even the smallest piece of root left in the soil will regenerate and this plant is virtually immune to glyphosate. I had a whole bucketful of roots from an area 5ft x 4ft and that was tramped into the bucket. just another 9 x similar sized areas to fork out . The bit I did clear allowed me to plant some cherry tomato plants but I wil have to do the rest before I plant out my large exhibition onions. Ideally I should riddle all the soil in the tunnel to remove the small bits of root but I just don't have the time.

Anyway, to cheer myself up I took home some strawberries and Ice cream from Tescos. yummie

          • Nicos, it is a real sod. When Beechgrove Garden visited my plot, I gave Jim Mccoll away a specimen for him to show to his fellow presenters to try to identify. It was Chris Beardshaw who came up with the ID.

The plant has a pretty flower but that's not enough justification for me to keep it in my plot. It seems to be very invasive. I've been trying to get rid of it for 5 years now and feel I'm losing the battle.

                  • Mornin n'alln'all
                    3voles for breakfast so far....

Not nice I know, but we are inundated with the things -particularly around the veg plots...so at least Hibou is earning her keep
It's amazing how much damage they can do.

Today is mostly Mrs Mop, visiting my sick friend and taking some nosh for her, maybe some more gardening if it drys up a tad , then a BBQ chez some friend's tonight.

Really need to start thinking about making crafts for the September Fayre....

                    All go innit?

Have a great day peeps...nearly BH weekend!

                    • Morning all from sunny Aberdeenshire. Looks like being a nice day again. We are really getting to the stage of needing rain though. It better not come today though as I have a load of washing on.

Great to hear about Hibou Nicos.

Hope you all have a great day. Stay safe, Cadalot. I hate ladders.

                          • Dark and drizzly but surprisingly warm this morning, weird.
So gardening off the agenda, unless it clears later, so - more housework for me, and the dreaded ironing.
Need to get some cat food, Molly isn't very good at self catering unlike Hibou, and wasn't impressed with getting biscuits instead of her usual pouch last night Bad mummy
