  • They're so tiny though, Burnie. I'd need to cover my garden with them to grow enough for a pot of jam.
Just picked a pound and a half (680g) of raspberries. I need 800g to make 4 jars of jam. Should be able to pick the balance tomorrow. If not, I'll top it up with strawberries. Haven't picked those today.
Just finished my standard evening meal - 5 courgettes and some melted cheese - washed down with a glass of red. None of this fancy cooking here.

    • Was out painting the hut this evening, its supposed to be water repellent so hope it works, though I have my doubts, as its also supposed to be non drip, but OH noted quite quickly when I came in the house that there were one or two drips on my shoes my trousers and my shirt and I was advised to remove them before going any further, well I am taking it as advice, or possibly she was making advances to me as she asked me to strip "Get those clothes off before you go any further" then "and wash that paint off your hands and arms oh and your hair" and people think romance is dead one other thing of note while moving some potted plants I uncovered a group of five raspberries which should be ripe by tomorrow,
While writing this I note that there is a bright clear moon in the sky, so it's going to be a beautiful bright night tonight
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

      • Evening!

        OK...confession time!

Having read VC's post about picking slightly underripe strawberries and leaving on her windowsill to ripen I decided to do the same for my few remaining blackcurrants as the blackbirds were picking them off before they were ripe.

So..managed to get about 1/2lb and spread them over a large dinner plate and left in the sun for the afternoon.
When I went to check on them to see if they had changed colour I was rather surprised to see they had indeed changed colour.....they had gone all wrinkly and pale pink...cos they'd baked in the sun!

So...a quick scoot around the strawberry and raspberry patches and I have enough fruit to mix with them to make some individual summer puddings tomorrow.

Clearly full sun at 35C is a tad too warm then!

            • Mornin Flon'all
Ta muchly for the cuppa Flo.
Domestics for me today....I KNOW!....all this lovely weather n'all

Got a wee bit of a rant /sob coming on....
Ya know we've been working on the side borders/pathway by the side of the garage...and carefully pruning back/rescuing some of the things?...well, yesterday, the septic tank bloke DROVE HIS TANKER over it all! *sign
I know I originally said it looked like someone had driven a tank over it...but flippin 'eck...this is after we've put in hours and hours of work.
Loads of crushed plants which definitely won't recover in time for Friday (lupins etc)
Think we need a 'Band Aid day' now....cut right back what remains....lay down more pea gravel to hide stuff for now, then plonk a variety of potted up tubs along the borders.
At least it'll look tidy for now.
Ah well...on the positive side, .at least it' ll involve a trip to the garden centre

Busy couple of days again for me...have a gud'un peeps, make hay whilst the sun shines eh!
              See ya later....

                • Thanks Flo....everywhere else looks like controlled ,yet rambling ,nature...this is going to look like a Zen pebble pathway until it recovers
Thank goodness we hadn't installed the woven edging yet ...that takes hours to cut from the hazel tree and create. Might not bother with that for now.
Still...not complaining (muttering under breath a tad maybe)
OH had a brill idea...hang up loads of bird boxes and insect houses he's made along the side of the garage so peeps don't look down!

Had a couple of looks at the sky at sillyo'clock.fr -checking for Pen's clouds, but sadly nothing there last night.

                  Right...best crack on then!

Chilly and misty start to the day but the sun is beginning to burn it off now. Lots of watering to do today as I am off for a short trip to Devon later.

                      Hope a fabulous Wednesday all

                      • Morning Guys, not visiting the allotment first thing today as it heavy medication day for Mrs C which she has to take as soon as she is awake and remain upright and I have to sort it out for her, so I will be visiting and watering a little later, but there is some cloud cover at the moment which hopefully will remain until I have watered.

I've been fixing garden furniture and the shed and still have some work to do on that, as well as erecting and filling my second comfrey pipe to the wall.

I'm loving the two hour visits in the mornings that I don't have an appointment to visit a property to inspect. I'm now arranging my work around the allotment visits to ensure I can get at least three visits during the week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning, it's taken four years but its time to manage the work appoints around the allotment and not fit visits in where I can because they just don't happen that way, and with Mrs C's improved condition I can to that.

have a good one whatever you end up doing today

Morning, it was the same here early on Flo couldn't see down the road but the sun soon got rid of it.

                          • Mornings! It's quite a lot cooler here today 17C, as we have a NE breeze taking the edge of the sunshine, had to put a thin cardi on
The cat brought me in an empty nest yesterday evening, full of fluff and feathers - nice mess it made n all I'll have to find a way to block the gap in the hedge to stop her getting in there.

I'm off to the plot now to plant out some follow-on beans...have a good'un

                            • Morning,
Just realised what I do. I check the Vine on my phone in the morning but don't sign in as I can't be bothered using it to post. I then forget to use my iPad to wish you all a good morning because I think I've done it earlier in the morning! So Good morning for all the mornings I have and probably will miss!
It was a misty start this morning but bright sunshine and the temps are rising quickly. They are saying we should expect 32 here tomorrow...hot, hot hot.
Ok for to do some domestics, have a great day everyone. Sorry about the mishap Nicos, it's a bummer!

I don't leave them on a windowsill in the sun - they're in the kitchen in the shade!! Yours have turned to "Currants" of the dried grape sort.!!
Just picked some more strawberries - they're coming to an end now. It'll be a relief actually as I can stop making jam every day!
We had a power cut this morning, didn't know until I went to have a shower (electric). Had to find the old kettle to boil up on the gas for a cuppa. It was only off for an hour or so but the power company have just rung to check that everything is alright. What a nice man. Apparently its one of the perks of being a pensioner - they put you on a priority list!! ..............and rary, I'm not really a pensioner, I lied about my age so that nice men would ring me.
Its so hot the dogs don't want to eat..............not having that effect on me!!
Have a luvly day - stay cool.
