          • ^Crikey, Nicos. That's too hot and too late in the day to be doing that. If I had a pointy stick, I'd be shooing you back indoors with it much earlier.

No news here. Hot again. Courgette glut in full swing already. And I'm already looking a bit worriedly at the aubergine plants, as there are six that will need picking tomorrow...

Hope you're all having a jolly day.

            • Evening All

Nice full day over the plots, saw my first slug in weeks today and it was not too happy when I exposed it to the sun. Smallest amount of rain yesterday but enough to start weed armageddon.

No breeze at all tonight so rather unpleasant indoors

              Enjoy your evening

Flo, you're right, I don't watch much TV but having a new one means I can give the "old" one to my Mum who watches a lot of TV. If we suggest she buys a new one herself, she reminds us that she's 98 and the one she has will "see her out". If I tell her she can have my old one, she'll accept it (I hope!!). Its a bigger screen so she'll be able to watch her soaps and quizzes more comfortably.
That is very kind of you VC, but I am sorry I delayed, I have just bought a new TV, but sadly my mother is no longer with us,and was wondering who I could give my old set to, and as I look upon you as my mother figure, I was going to offer it to you, so as I said sorry I delayed

                • Evening early morning and evening are the best times to be out in the garden its too hot in the day. I seem to nip out do a bit then retreat back indoors otherwise.

                    • Good evening, yes Bren it is good to get out to the garde when its a bit cooler, I was in the garden this morning and did some dead heading and watering, then went out with OH for a bit of lunch, which we enjoyed, but for some reason she is not speaking to me now, when we came back I decided to renew the comfrey in the water drum that I use, so when emptying the old material out I wanted to filter it as there was a lot of loose material in the bottom, so I asked OH for an old pair of tights, she gave me a pair and asked what I was going to do with them I explained that I would pull them over the drum then empty the liquid into a pail and the tights would catch the solids, she reconditioned the tights wouldn't fit over the top but as I told he if they go over her hips they should fit over the drum, which they did and now she's in the huff, I think its because I was right and she was wrong, well I am for out to the garden again for a short time, so might catch you later

                      • Thanks for the thought, rary, but your old TV will be a black and white one with a 12" screen. We all know how "careful" you are.

I've had a funny old day! Decided to clean the chooks out and found red mite in their kennel so it needed a more thorough clean than usual.
Fetched the sweeping brush to sweep it out and the brush head fell off - so I was "sweeping" with the handle.
As I banged the handle back into the brush, Spud appears with summat in his mouth. Its usually a stick or a ball, or even a pair of socks. Not this time! It was a rat - a piglet sized rat.
Luckily, it was a dead rat, though how it had died I don't know, but it was very recent.
I can't imagine Spud killed it, though he has caught several moles. So I had to stop my brush banging and go rat - throwing (into the field at the end of the garden where the foxes lurk).
Normally, cleaning the chooks out is a 5 minute job - not today.
Spent the afternoon recovering, shelling broad beans, sitting the shade with the chooks ripping the coir doormat to pieces alongside me and Spud molehunting in the woodchip I'd carefully spread yesterday - which now has moon-like craters in it.
Life would be boring if it all went to plan!

Hope you've all enjoyed your day - still waiting for rain here!

                              • Mornings!
It's lovely and sunny - but 26C already, with no breeze at all.

A quick plot visit for watering and then I'll mostly hide in the shade.....

                                Have a good'un
