    • ^We've got some of our own - almond trees that have died in the drought - but probably not enough. Wood is priced here by the kilo (last year we paid 12 cents a kilo for chopped and split dry olive and almond, which is a good price locally). You buy it by the trailer-load and pay for the number of kilos (weighed at the local co-op). A stère is a mystery to me. We get through around three tonnes a winter. This year we'll buy less because I've got a load left from last year, plus we'll have quite a bit of our own.

In an average year, I reckon we spend around 300 euros on firewood. But that gives us seven months of heating, hot water and cooking. So not bad. But at 120 euros a tonne, far more expensive than the 20 euros a ton someone else mentioned in a recent thread.

        • Snoop....a stère is about 1cubic metre costing about €60 ..less if it's not oak quality.
Not by weight as fresh wood weighs heavier than seasoned wood.

            • I managed to pick a few blackberries from the hedge opposite this afternoon. Enough to squeeze out the juice to fill 11 ice cubes.
All in the freezer now waiting to be bagged up for use during the winter!

              • Nicos, we have had a bumper crop of blackberries this year due to the sunny weather,
10 and a half lbs picked and still more on the bushes.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,

                • Having a ME day tomorrow. Weather forecast is ok so I shall visit allotment in the morning and crack on with the digging until I sicken myself. I will collect a few worms as I go to be used n the afternoon.

Then its back home to dust off my fishing gear and head up to my fishing club waters.

Fly fishing is my preferred method but if the trout are not being obliging, I am not averse to drowning a few worms to get my supper.

                  • Good evening, just back from having a night out for a meal with friends, and a fine meal it was too, after the meal we were having a chat with the manageress who informed that there was a lady who had booked a room for the night through one of the booking sites, and had thought she had a good deal, she had told the receptionist that she had got the room at a good price, when asked how much she had paid it was pointed out to her that she could have saved £35·00 booking direct, so to any one thinking about going away for a couple of days check out with some he hotel you fancy first
On that note I am of to bed as we have the he boys down in the morning , pass on a smile. Goodnight
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Especially first thing in the morning!

That's probably why I felt the need to make a plum crumble yesterday

Next weekend I have a stall at a huuuge local fair...once that's over I'll need to start preparing for the Xmas ones (Miss Miss...she said the C word again in August!)

                          • Wow, I've just had about 7hrs uninterrupted sleep, (not getting up for more painkillers) first time in about a year, feeling blessed!
I wouldn't be awake now if the cat hadn't been sick in the bedroom - I should be grateful she's eating the moths and spiders, I suppose

                            Have a good'un whatever you're up to :
