Early start...jobs to do as guess who is off to IKEA today!

A friend was originally planning on going alone but I kindly offered to go with her!
Her face lit up when I asked if I could go too.
There ya go rary....I put a huuuge grin on her face!

One of my apple jellies didn't set the other day so I need to reboil and jar it again before we go. Maybe get a tad of ironing done too...then I won't feel so guilty about abandoning my rather large list of 'urgent' jobs

The 7am bells are about to go, so I best crack on!

Kettle's on....toast and jam today...help yrselves ...

Yeh....I've got my clumpy winter shoes out of storage Flo.
I bought some lovely warm boots in the sales last year but only got a chance to wear them once....
Winter is indeed a-coming.

Mornings! Foggy and damp here this morning and above 10C all night, so ended up throwing the quilt off sometime during the night, hot flushes because of the weather - not because of me- daft isn't it LOL

This morning, if the fog lifts, I got a bit of digging (really gentle forking over nowadays ) to finish the pea and bean bed and then home for compost delivery this after'.

where is everyone? no posts since morning?

Anyway, I'm here now . Got myself into my plot about 10.00am. Spent the first hour excavating for onions . To explain, In mid August, the onion bed was clear of weeds and I'd removed those specimens destined to go on the show bench. At the beginning of September, there was a shimmer of green, mid September that had developed into a carpet of weed seedlings and today was m first opportunity to go do something about that.

There was a thicket of weeds about 6" deep and I couldn't see a single onion and given that a lot of the weeds were nettles, I had to use my rake to get the onions out of the ground. I've never seen such weed growth at this time of year and I guess thats due to weed seed not germinating earlier in the year because of the drought. Had they done so, they would have been hoed off . Anyway, I've got a massive problem to sort out as the whole plot is the same.

I dismantled the support canes for my broad beans which was difficult because of my sore shoulder but I got there wiith a little patience. And finally, my runner bean wigwam which had been flattened in the gales got some attention and I started dismantling that as well. 3.00pm came too quickly and that's when I had said I'd be leaving for home.

Why does time pass so quickly on the plot? It's like being on the internet. It just whizzes by.

Final event of the day was a visit to the doctors surgery for my flu jab. It was one of the lady doctors who did the needful and she asked me what I'd been doing today and I gave her the above story and told her my sore arm was stopping me lifting my tatties. She asked if I grew anything else and I pointed to the small tray of tomatoes on her desk which apparently she scoffs instead of biscuits. I said I'd drop a truss of real tomatoes in for her and did that before leaving. It was a truss of "Berry toms". Strawberry shaped and absolutely delicious. If I didn't have another truss in the car I'd have been jealous

Been a glorious day here...no doubt everyone is catching the last nice days of early autumn?
Went to IKEA and bought loads of church candles for the lounge. Should see us through to around XXXX time.
Stuffed my face with meatballs and chips and free hot chocolate
Apparently we walked 3km in there!
Seed sorting planned for tomorrow...maybe some weeding...

Must get my flu jab sorted now I'm near enough over the shingles....thanks for the reminder.

Just looking out of the window I can see loads of dry leaves everywhere....must start thinking about raking some up before they get rained on and more difficult to collect.
