Though I'm too tight and skint to buy anything anyway - I'm possibly not the 'mark' that the advertisers are after. A nice 'ten percent off decent seed supplier' link that gives a bit to the site would be good - but thats a bit too targeted eh! I know nothing of marketing or advertising...

You're right. It isn't as bad as before. Seems a bit slower to load, but that could just be a false impression. At least I got to see the famous X for closing the black bar at the bottom. I might leave Adblock off for this site. For the moment at least. If it goes all stroboscopic again, I might rethink that.

For the FREE use of a site like this with all it entails I gladly put up with the ads, the alternative my friends is dig in your pocket.....................

I block all ads on all sites - and all scripts bar those necessary to give basic functionality of a site - and will continue to do so, ever since another site managed to deliver me a nasty virus due to an advert that it delivered with a malicious payload.

I don't use any blocker, but I'm not currently seeing the bottom bar, and I just zoom the page up until the thread/posts are the width of the screen... I don't even see the side info.

It is the loading of adds that gets to me. At the end of a long wet string, anything to speed up access is good. Sometimes we need to accept that we need to click onto an add from time to time

I must say that for someone that worked in IT, it never occurred to me to check the templates available to the users (us)

No black bar on mine and the Carbon Gold doesn't bother me as it's not a flashing add.
As Bee said, if you zoom in the side adds disappear.

You can get rid of the black bar by specifically choosing it to be clear on as blocker.

I have the ad-blocker for my set up and it must be basic, compared to yours, as it doesn't have that option. It removes most of the ads but leaves the bottom one as a black band. Hopefully that one will only be here for a while before it disappears

Yes, sorry, I tried to edit my post but for some reason my computer seized up.

Right click on the bar. Select Adblock from the menu and choose "Block this ad" from the menu that opens. Then slide the slider across. I hope that works for you.

I've found an old post of Bearded Bloke's that maay help those of you can't see the tab to close the Black Bar.

Righty ho, the bottom bar is an advertisement that is there for a month, but there is a hide function that will close it for a week at a time.

Those running adblocking software cannot see the hide button, but there is a way to do it scroll the page down so that there is a blank reply box just above the bar, now slowly move the cursor to the centre of the bar & go upwards to just above it, when the pointer turns to a hand left click

I disabled adblockplus to see how many ads there were - the Close tab is visible then.
