History help please - Alicia Amherst / Evelyn Cecil

I have taken on a new pet project - local history and bits (cos I am a certified nutter ). However, I have quickly discovered that there was a local horticulturalist - Alicia Amherst (sometimes spelt Amhurst) a.k.a Evelyn Cecil.

Has anyone read any of her books (I am not at a point of paying £10+ a time to see what they are like ) or come across her? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

She advises that you should aim to have one plant in flower in each season. then one each month, then one in blue, yellow and red each month and so on.
Packets of flower seeds are 1d each and in the first year, 6d will set you up.

I need to clear my head of her family history before I read it, so I can appreciate it/her on her own merits. She lived in an 80 bedroom hall with her 6 sisters. There were 2 musuems in the hall as her father collected Egyptian antiquities and is apparently responsible for cleopatras needle being in London. Also the museum inspired Howard Carter who discovered Tutankhamun's tomb as he used to wonder around one museum as a kid, the second was built because of Howard Carter. The hall also had a walled garden, mahoosive gh, heronry, racecourse and the list goes on. Oh and they also owned the neighbouring villages hall, but that wasn't as impressive Yes I am very jealous and wish I could step back in time to have a proper good snout

The Amhersts of Didlington Hall

I'm sure you are aware of the famed Blue nosed B*st@rds of 'Bodney' which is close to didlington.
For a very short period of time a lot of history was centred there. Feltwell and Methwold too had thier moments, although thier history is moderatly well documented.
None of the above is gardening related, but certainly local history.
