MoMs (Members of the Month) - an Announcement.

After much deliberation we have taken the decision to suspend the MoM award. The original concept was to reward grapes who provided good rounded advice on gardening, or who made a significant effort in making the Grapevine a nice place to be.

We have asked you to nominate members who deserve recognition for the positive contribution they make to the Vine, and we rely heavily on these nominations in putting names forward to Admin. However, over time, these nominations have become less and less. Without your support, it has become increasingly difficult to select a Mom each month.

Although it has never been a commitment, the Admin team have recognised the valuable contributions made by the Mom by sending them a gift. However, problems with their supplier has led to delays and comments have been made by MoMs about this. We are still pursuing these gifts but it is out of the Mods' hands and we can make no promises..

Quite frankly, there is a lot of work involved in setting up and liaising between the Mom and Admin and it doesn't always run smoothly. Therefore, we feel that it is time to have a break. Its not to say that there won't be a MoM in the future but for now, you must consider yourselves all to be Members of the Month, and maybe, one day you will have that Banner beneath your name.

Awww, that's a shame but, having been on the "other side" I know how difficult it is to organise and know that you won't have come to this decision lightly.
Thank you to all the previous Mom's, I have been in very good company. Thank you, too to all the Mod's past and present who have worked to make this happen for so long.

I didn’t realise you could nominate and I wouldn’t be looking for a gift as MOM would be gift enough! Hope it returns but until then, we’ll done all previous MOMS, will miss the monthly hunt!

Hi VC - I reckon you mods do a ton of work organizing on here, and so any changes you make which keeps things simpler are sure of my support.

Just a thought, but given that trying to get monthly nominations going has proved a to be a case of diminishing returns perhaps the frequency of the award was an issue - how does a new "member of the year " nomination thing sound ?

We'll take all the suggestions on board for, and if, the MoM is restarted.

Many of the deserving Grapes don't post on the Chat threads and its only those who do "chat" that would see a bumped reminder.
Some of you are very good at putting names forward and there has been a list of nominations. As you would expect, the same names keep appearing and some members have been MoM a few times.

Just to be clear too, the addition of the MoM banner is not something that the Mods can do and I don't think there is a "Member of the Year" option that Admin can use.

I’m confused. I’m an elephant so what do you expect but I do think an all rounder - meaning growing advice and a sense of global community is an ideal MOM.
