Started with summer jobs picking fruit in a local orchard.
Bunching daffodils and packing them in boxes.
Soldering stacks for computers ( When they were large) and helping to build them.
Worked in a pharmaceutical company.
Secretary for the local scout group.
Part-time librarian for a boys school.
Chargehand in Woolworths over cosmetics.
Fundraiser for our local school,
Typist in an office.
Receptionist in a barbers shop.
Took a break to rear my three children and then decided to stay home and help out looking after my grandkids.
This has been the best, and most rewarding job of them all.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
My first job was on a Saturday in my teens when I was a room cleaner in a hotel, then I worked in Littlewoods selling nylon stockings where my wage was £1! When stretch ones came in I had to wear some because so many people kept bringing them back because they said they were too small! I left school to work as a trainee Biomedical Scientist where I went round various Pathology laboratory departments. I gained my qualification in Histology, and over the years worked my way up to become Head of Department. I retired in 2007 after completing nearly 42 years continual service. I am researching the local history of Thurnham near Lancaster, and have written a booklet updating the history of Cockersand Abbey which is about 2 miles from my home. It is an old cottage about 300 years old if not older, and we have a large ornamental garden plus an acre of field, some of which is used for my veg beds etc and a large goose and hen pen. I also write poetry, collect various antiques, and adore my cats.

Blimey, there are some interesting souls here after all!
As Kevin said interesting souls here, when you read all the education and employment listed on this thread it makes me wonder why so many (what may be considered) well educated intelligent folk like to get their hands dirty. Me I do it to save money
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
Member of the Nutters Club but I think I am just there to make up the numbers
Balders. How kind of you to remember T.A.R.T.S! I just did it for the love of the job and still have my personally-designed card on the window ledge by my PC as a reminder of happy days. Unfortunately I don't do lap-tops as I'm not that sort of girl!
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

Negative results are just what I want. Theyre just as valuable to me as positive results. I can never find the thing that does the job best until I find the ones that dont.

Well for a couple of school holidays I plucked and gutted chickens. Good fun with the workers and learnt a lot about social interaction.
First job in the accounts office of Ambrosia Lifton. Did some ICMA exams.
Joined Collector of Taxes and can honestly say that I didn't notice whether the barrel was smooth or not when it was pointed at me. Also met some unfriendly dogs.
Moved to London trained for as an Inspector of taxes. Met some very exceptional people. I didn't like Broadwater farm and got told off for not allowing my team to visit there. The civil servants I met were ok as well! Brought in substantial sums for her Majesty's Government. Found gardening relaxing and did the "night shift" at the allotments because when I went home everyone else was coming out to catch the early morning sun.
Retired to Wiltshire and really missed the allotment (had a garden) for two years. Have one now and life is bliss.

Played on my Country accent so that my "prey" thought I was stupid and you know, it worked!
