We did have a mad mafia experience there. A Sicilian man had asked an English girl to go out with him for the evening. She said she would only go if we came along too (we'd only just met her that week). He agreed but his brother had to come along with us.
That evening, a big black limo with tinted glass pulled up at the hotel and we 3 got in. There was a driver, the brother (who was in a wheelchair), his Minder and the "Man". They all wore dark glasses and well cut suits.
They drove us into Palermo and down some dark alleys. The car stopped and the Man got out and we all followed - with the Minder pushing the wheelchair. The building's windows were boarded over and there were no lights. The Man gave a few rhythmic knocks on the door and it creaked open enough for the occupants to see who was there. The door opened wider and we all went in.-----------to an amazing restaurant where we had a variety of local dishes and plenty of wine.
After this, back in the limo and we were whisked off to an Italian Icecream parlour - then back to the hotel. It was a good night but there was always that slight edge to it - were we safe, what would happen to us.
Anyway, after this successful evening out, the English girl decided that the Man was honourable and that she would go out with him, without us chaperoning.
Needless to say, he was not at all honourable, tried to have his evil way with her and, when she refused, he dropped her at the side of the road, miles from the hotel and she had to find her own way back.
I'm sure they weren't related to you Lumpy.
