      Stirring?

Not for me thanks, I've too many seeds already and anyway don't like all the varieties or even types of veg per magazine.

      That do ya?

I assume any controversy was mainly over the price? I don't mind saying I bought the first one - still have the wall planner pinned up, used the seed labels and seeds, although have yet to get round to watching the DVD!

I'm sure it's true that you can get a decent beginners book or a few packets of really good seeds for the same price but the mag + freebies are not so bad for newbies, surely? I think anything that gets people interested has to be a good thing!

Didnt buy it last time round, and since I got the (heavily hinted for!) subscription to GYO for christmas (yeyyyyy, thank you darling Ro!!) don't see the point again this year!
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

            New Mag.

I also got the first copy last year, but ended giving most of the seeds away. Labels where nice.

I got my Feb issue of GYO today and there is a big advert for this new mag out on Feb 8th, its the 1st of 3 they are planning.

Appears to be lots of seeds being given away *FREE* and yet they are asking you for £7.99.

Interestingly the price is not advertised on the paper advert but is on the on-line advert.

Will probably buy the mag, but will hide the price from my other half.

I just don't get why they are only using Tesco as an outlet for the first issue - surely that excludes a huge amount of potential buyers?

It would have to be personally delivered by Johnny Depp before I paid that sort of money for a magazine...
As Seahorse says, it's probably a good thing for someone just starting out, but as soon as you get into the veg growing thing, choosing your own varieties of veg is a big part of the process. And having looked at the advert, I wouldn't buy a single one of those packs of seeds...!
So, that's a "no" from me then...!

I wasn't on here last year and I didn't see the mag in question but judging by what you are all saying I think I'll give it a miss also

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade here, but I have finally, after 37 years, learned that the "free gifts" on magazines are just about useless: flip flops that break, mascara that doesn't dry, teeshirts that bag after one wash, umbrellas that break when you open them, and seeds that you wouldn't buy for yourself. So I no longer buy mags on the strength of the free gifts.

So that leaves a magazine for £7.99 ... you can get a good book for that, which isn't full of adverts. Or several books from your library for nowt, and spend the 8 squid on beer!

Like your style TwoSheds..! Can I add - it would also buy 2 bags of compost, or fish & chips for the whole family, or 2 people into the cinema....!

I was going to ask if it would be available "over the water", but I guess that's not worth asking now. And I already have a full biscuit tin of seeds that I need to plant (and a small order from T&M on the way....)

I won't bother. Can only stretch to buying GYO mag now and again so a mag at that price doesn't stand a chance. Unless of course it came with a visit from some gardening folks to dig over and sort out my beds ready for planting!
