  • Compost bin?

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a compost bin?

The best price I've seen so far is a 330L bin for £20 with a 5L kitchen caddy for £4 through our local council.

Does that seem a good price, or can it be beaten?

    Thanks

      Contact your local council

Contact your local council, our council do 330 litre ones with a free kitchen caddy for £6 or a 230 litre one for £5.

Most local authorities are encouraging recycling so well worth a call.
Excuse me, could we have an eel? You've got eels down your leg.

Sorry to say Kent Council aren't so generous:

        Compost Bins - Special Offer

Still a reduction of sorts. Mind you we had to collect us from the RC so probably why it was cheaper.

Our council (east cambs) does the big ones for £10 and the smaller ones for £8. If you order online you get a pound off....

No help if you don't live in east cambs, lol

maybe worth looking on free ads?

Indeed! KCC aren't the most generous or "green" of councils!

I had to pay for mine from the council, but it was only 6 Quid.
                Works well.

Our council (Staffordshire Moorlands) put us in touch with a Company called Blackwall (Telephone 0845 130 60 90 Fax 0845 130 60 91). We got two large dalek-type bins for £6.00 each, delivered.

hi everyone . i have been thinking of getting one of the darlek plastic type from our council (£18 in hertfordshire) but im abit confused as how they work. every thing i've read on getting good compost states that you have to turn it regular stuff like that. so as you can't do that with those type of bins does that mean it all gets abit slimy and smelly?. i will have to place it quite near the house so bit worried about that. thanks in advance for any help.

it would certainly help reach those EU targets. Our council point you to Recycle now - Recyclenow Homepage

Edit: is anyone else having trouble getting onto freecycles website?

You will need to turn it. Pull of the plastic bin and then fork it into another one so that the contents are inverted. It's always better to have 2 bins to make this easier.

                            hi

i have a large Dalek and i was only turning mine today and to be honest it looks great in there, i just get my fork in and dig it about, and turn it around, if you get the larger one its not bad to do. My compost is nice and dark and everything is breaking down nicely, i do however, cut my veg peelings up small and shred the newspaper and make sure that i layered with manure as well as grass etc, i think it all depends on the layers you put in, i areate every week.

Hope this helps, happy composting :-)
