  • Should I buy a wormery?

Are they worth it? Are they any good, Are they a lot of work to maintain, pH temperature etc etc? If they are worth it, which variety would one recommend?

Hi, I have 2 which I bought. I think stoke worms are about the cheapest. You could make your own quite easily though and I am no diyer. The plastic recycle bins that is all you would need and the worms and bran. Oh some good advice on how to set it up of course.

We won one (a Can of Worms from Wiggly Wigglers) and find its great because you can use it for cooked leftovers like pasta and rice which you don't want on your compost heap. Very easy to look after and Worm Wee is a great fertilizer when watered down. Would recommend it!

Your local council may offer them at a low rate (ours was won through a council competition)

      We love our worms!

Get a can of worms type rather than the single bin type. I have both and the COW is much easier to empty although each unit can get quite heavy.

Thanks everyone, I was thinking of the worm factory- at wiggly wigglers, they are selling slight seconds at £30 a pop. So with the worms I would be looking at about £45. From the images this looks like it only has two trays, are three trays better? Can cooked foods also be placed in these, I thought cooked food on a compost heap was a no no, so what is the difference- or is it that rats cant get into a wormery?
