Thanks for the info Fastlearner,
We visited our local Wyevales yesterday, armed with a list of seeds that we need for next year, and came home with almost everything (just need a few more varieties of squash n pumpkin to complete the list) we need for next years growing season! Spent 23 quid and got 54 pounds worth of seeds (well, with 2 allotments and 3 greenhouses we do tend to get thru a few seeds, its not like we're addicted or anything, honest!), all dated for 2010! Mr D also picked up a venus fly trap (he's been after one for ages) and 2 of the mushroom growing kits that were on BOGOF!! Not a bad days haul in our view!
Many thanks again for the heads up!Blessings

The Two in Leicester are half price, but a lot of gaps in shelves, i got a few 'bits' from one yesterday, i just might visit tother later today, as the weather is bad here.
Found it a little disconcerting just how hot and stuffy it was though, i even remarked to the 12 year old on the till how hot it was.
Just thinking of all those packets of seeds, sitting there in the sun, getting warmer.
Might explain my 'interesting' germination rates last spring with previous sale seeds.Blogging at..... www.thecynicalgardener.wordpress.com

Mrs Dobby,
What do you do with all your crop!!!! :O
Well done - I'd love to have all that - my local town is looking at providing allotments, so if all goes well this year with my own garden - might get an allotment too! - I see this as a good way to be amongst people who know what they are doing - As i dont really have anyone other than the forum just now!

The glib answer would be that we eat it!
Actually, lots of it is eaten when fresh - especially those crops that are seasonal or that can be left to stand for a while - such as winter brassicas, leeks, etc.
Things such as onions, garlic, tatties and some beans are stored for use later (we didnt need to buy garlic at all this last year, and didnt runk out of onions until feb) either in the garage, hung in the kitchen or put into a clamp (leeks heeled in, carrots / parsnips clamped)
Those crops that we end up with too much to eat fresh (toms, chillies, peppers, mange tout, courgettes, peas, beans, rasps, rhubarb, strawbs, etc) either get frozen fresh, preserved (pickles, chutneys, jams etc) or processed and frozen or 'canned' (tomatoes and other veg processed to make ratatouille or passatta, etc)

We didnt know much ourselves until we took our firsat plot on in September 2006, its amazing how quickly you learn stuff when you need to! Give it a growing season and you'll know a lot more than you think you do!Blessings
