  • Potato Bags?

    Morning Folks,

Don't have much space so I'm gonna grow spuds in containers next year. I already have some tyres and in ALDI I noticed recycle bags for £2.99.

Size is w31.5 d31.5 43.5 and you get 3 for £2.99, one yellow one blue and one green, colours are a bit loud but the price seemed ok to me.
    Cheers

Do you mean for storing or growing in?

If it's storing don't use plastic as they will sweat and rot (Use Lynda's suggestion - I got mine for nothing of the man who sells seed tatties and just wack them in the washer.

If it's growing in they need to be thick and black to exclude light otherwise any near the sides will turn green and will be useless. you can plant 1 in a flower bucket ( the ones in the supermarkets) and they work well or go to the local pound shop and get some cheapo tubs like I did.

Have you thought about using one of those big bags that building supplies are delivered in. I'm sure you could get hold of one of those for free. I think they are only used once and then thrown away.

My father recently visited an agricultural show (sorry can't remember which one) and picked up a leaflet giving instructions showing how to make a, compost bin type, box to support one of these bags for growing potatoes in. Looked very good and very easy, I would think that quite a good crop could be grown in one.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

People who grow for exibition grow in containers, best to grow stump rooted varieties(unless you're after the longest of course, then you use drain pipe.

What do you reckon to using the bags I bought but lining with black bin bags?
                Cheers
