patiogro - a greener way to grow

I was wondering if anyone had bought one of these patiogro sets. It is a bit expensive, but I've been asked for christmas pressie ideas, and wondered if this would be worthwhile. Growing space is really limited for me, but...

Any thoughts on the following:-
Would the trays be deep enough, large enough, to get a decent crop?
Would they dry out too quickly? (could use water retaining crystals I suppose)
Would it be worthwhile getting the cover?
Would the bottom shelf be a good idea, although it does cut out half the growing space, and puts the cost up even higher.

Only thing is, the flyer that was in a mag says order by 30/11 to get the freebies, and the website says 15/11, so whichever way I need to make a decision as soon as possible, so any opinions/experiences welcomed.

well others better than me will have to answer as to what you could grow in them, i mean they say extra deep, but they dont look THAT deep.
brill idea though space wise.
I am already planning a way to bodge something similar together

Was thinking in the same vein, when OH said Christmas was coming. He prob thinks it's much easier to go that route than the diy one I was thinking copper tape around the legs would deter slugs.

good luck with THAT!! lol. it will help i think, as long as it is far enough away from a wall to prevent the parachuting ones, and stand the legs on saucers full of salt.

* maybe not that particular one, as it's particle board and will rot. They do plastic ones, very strong (I got two)

I regularly buy their other pots/trays etc, and I've seen these on display in their shop. Is there anything specific you want to know about it?

My thoughts on seeing it were;
I think stability is improved over the normal "mini-greenhouse", by the legs being splayed rather than straight.
Stuff in the middle of second & bottom shelves will have to be happy with some shade.
You could grow small leeks/onions/garlic/round carrots in the deep trays, but not deep enough for ordinary carrots or beetroots.
The plastic cover might only last one season if used in a windy area.
It would be great for growing strawberries!
