There's been an update on the River Cottage Spring thing the last couple of weeks which has been good.

Re the books, got the year book which is an excellent read, part cook book, part lifestyle. OH has the mushroom book too but I've never really looked at that much although he likes it.

If you're not a vegetarian then I would recommend the River Cottage Meat book. The first half is entitled 'Understanding meat', & includes his philosophy on rearing animals with their welfare in mind, plus what is good meat, what to look for when buying it, a detailed explanation of the different cuts from different animals, how it's all produced etc - interesting & quite thought-provoking at times. The second half is a very, very informative cookbook on how to cook meat - getting the best from what you've bought, plus sections on preserving and also a useful section on Meat Thrift.
I've got the hardbacked copy which was originally £25 but it's been out a while, so you will probably find it cheaper somewhere.
Many people have eaten in my kitchen & gone on to lead normal, healthy lives.

There are at least 2 DVD series available, I have one "Return to River Cottage" (I think) but if you have a peek on Amazon or Play.com or something you will find them. I watch my set often, one of the best presents I've ever been bought.

            Hi

I now have all the River Cottage DVD, got the last one last week. I always thought it a bit odd how river cottage by the river, in the first series, turned in to river cottage HQ, but all was revealed on the last DVD hubby got me.

            I would recommend.

I've been reliably informed that I've got the wild side one for my birthday next month

Already got the others in a box set and am expecting beyond river cottage too.

Which one deals with the transformation from that nice victorian farmhouse to the huge thing he's in now? I must admit I did prefer the smallholder ones to the massive franchise that it's all become. Though I must say I do find what he's done very inspiring.

I dream of having just such a little farmhouse and those couple of fields one day

Got bought the veg book for a wedding anniversary present the other month and it's very good. Was a bit dubious to start with as I already have a lot of books so thought it would be just covering old ground but am very impressed and take it tot the lottie with me most times.

                    Hi

River Cottage Beyond is the one I got last week which is him and the new farm and looking for property for River Cottage HQ.

The cook on the wild side ones are great before all the River Cottage stuff.

I also have River Cottage Gone Fishing which is good if you want to know more about eating different fish.

I do not have access to channel four download system.
                    Bye
