It was just an idea, as I use bricks and bits of broken flagstones. However one of the best weights that's very portable and can over hang on beds or sit around new plants, is the cut-outs of tyres. As in, I cut the sides off tyres so the hole would be larger for planting, and decided not to throw away the inners. Then as I needed to hold down plastic sheets and stuff, I suddenly found how useful the inners could be. Both the tyres and the inners have lots of uses around the plot.

I use milk bottles filled with water ... they're fine. They hold milk OK, what's the difference? Unless ... you've washed them with very hot water and the plastic has melted a bit and warped (me, I don't wash things)
