  • Best Ratchet secateurs?

Years ago I had a pair of secateurs with ratchet action which were great. They went blunt and I idly bought another pair - which I soon discovered (but not soon enough to rescue the old pair ) were just a pair of curvy bladed snips. Rubbish

I bought a ratchet pair from the local ironmongers which were good for 12 months and then they broke

So I am looking for a replacement - but none of the packaging of all the pairs of secateurs that I have seen have the word 'ratchet' marked on (perhaps they are they all supposed to be so?), and of course you can't get then out the packet in the middle of the GC or Wilko to try them.

So - and at long last, I hear you cry - can you recommend the best secateurs in the world - but they can't be just snips, they have the have the ratchet action.

Any thoughts on these, grapes? I'd like to buy some secateurs at the GC this afternoon, and would welcome your advice.

Felco's Haze if you can afford them. Our GC has a whole rack of different Felco's, and they will allow you to fiddle with them if you ask If it's a decent GC the staff should be able to tell you what's what?
If you can't find any, try Harrod Horticultural, I know it means a wait for delivery, but worth it if you're investing?

I would recommend Felco. Pricy but amazing, and all parts replacable.

Actually, having Googled, I haven't come across that many 'ratchet' type seceteurs. It seems to be mainly loppers which have that sort of action.
I did come across these; http://www.qualitygardentools.com/ha...L-BD31303/view
but they're a bit cheap, so might not last very long.

Felcos are by far the best secateurs money can buy but as far as I am aware they do not make a ratchet type. You could try the Felcos with a rotating handle, they are very comfortable to use and so sharp that they will cut through quite thick stems easily thereby negating the need for a ratchet action.

Look online, they are considerably cheaper than from the garden centre.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.
